Decided I'm done being treated like garbage by my friends and I was going to break up with them but then I realized the reasoned adult thing is to quietly disinvest in them and pursue connection elsewhere while holding onto my dignity and self respect. But then I don't get to make a scene!!!

I am especially galled by the reactionary "what if Scrooge was right" movie coming out because several years ago I put a "maybe scrooge was right" analogy in a novel and it was totally above board and legitimate

I think all the time about this anecdote where Barbara Broccoli, 2nd generation steward of the Bond franchise, sold James Bond to Amazon and then got really offended one day when an executive referred to Bond as content. Selling my IP to the fart factory on the condition it not be turned into farts.

And like, while I am abstractly in favor of a creator defending their art from the contentification of everything, I dont entirely agree that “Woman Hating Murderer Part 27” deserves that protection.

I know it gets lost amidst greater decay but I am BEGGING for some left wing figure to do an initiative specifically around prosocial behaviors and public decency. Patience, politeness, honesty, we vastly underrate the effect *constantly treating each other and being treated like shit* has on us.

I am going to tell you an extremely dirty secret about my allegedly pure and profound art consumption. For four years, instead of reading OR watching movies, I would put on a movie VERY quietly and then read a book in the foreground, looking up when the volume level spikes.

At this point there are movies I’ve seen like three times—and never actually watched. I won’t even begin to ponder how my experience of books during this time was impacted. One afternoon I read Things Fall Apart and then my father asked me about it and I didn’t know basic plot facts.

Everyone to whom I admit this is horrified. People do not feel this is a responsible or respectful way to consume movies or literature. I have no rebuke it’s insane that I did this—and then told myself I’ve experienced the art!

So like—I despised the Suspiria remake I gave it a half star on letterboxd. I also did not hear a single line of dialogue and indeed only occasionally looked at the screen! At a party I will EXPLAIN to you why the Suspiria remake is awful. I am a monster.

I wish there were a substance you could put into your body to relieve pain, but at a cost. Maybe there would be a bloody underground marketplace devoted to the production and sale of the substance. I dunno. Just an idea I had. Also, we could tell children confusing lies about the substance.

Saw someone say comics are inherently right wing and almost dissolved into confetti from how stupid that is it's like saying music is heteronormative. However, a frequent storyline in 60's--90's comics is "superhero breaks up protest and recommends changing the system by engaging with it."
