There comes a time in every reactionary politician's life when he must steel himself, insert a nasogastric tube for unclear reasons, put on his bravest grimace, and give the weirdest thumbs-up anyone has ever seen.

Every clip I see about Bauza is so heartbreaking, he seems like such an amazing dude. Also, we gotta bring back using voice actors for animated shows and not just celebrities looking for an easy buck.

Harrison Butker needs to spend more time practicing his kicking and less time practicing an esoteric Catholicism that you can only access after watching 1000 hours of YouTube and growing a little beard.

This remains my official statement on Butker, whose greatest sin might be how boring his whole bit is. I'd forgotten the extent to which creeps rallied behind him, maybe because of how boring that was, too. The blog, however, I think holds up okay. (It's a gift link) defector.com/harrison-but...

thinking fondly again of the college girl at the donut place, who made a little muslim boy bounce giddily out the door after she told him his donut was free, and who waved me away and said "you're good" when it was my turn to pay and then, when asked if there was a deal that day said "i hate my job"

Really good and obviously extremely infuriating story here.

Last summer, Scientific American's owners were stalking the site, making sure it wasn't being too critical of Trump. This summer, the magazine was sold and gutted. I wrote about it for The Nation www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Flipping around earlier I caught that the guy who wrote Underworld (and its sequels) is named Danny McBride, and while it turned out to be a different Danny McBride I am now thinking about what a schlock vampire-action franchise written by the other Danny McBride would be like.

The movie is excellent and this is a very cool thing.

Once Upon a Time in Harlem is a film that every New Yorker should see — and this weekend you can, at no cost. We partnered with the filmmakers to offer free screenings this Saturday and Sunday at the Lincoln Center, Film Forum, and Magic AMC in Harlem. Go to on.nyc.gov/seeharlem to reserve a seat.

Convening a focus group of 30 people who have no idea what's going on and no expertise on basically any topic and just turning them loose. "Fuck me up," I tell them. "Just give me all the dumbest stuff you've got."

To honor the passing of Hollywood legend Tom Skerritt, who will forever be remembered for the Hallmark film Journey Back to Christmas, we jumped into a tool shed directly beneath the path of a comet to hurl us back in time to record this emergency podcast about that film using only 2018 technology.

Huge co-sign from Trump on Ramaswamy's shockingly vile ad just now. It has to feel amazing, if you're running as an abusive predator, to get this kind of endorsement from the number one abusive predator in the game.

it's funny to me to imagine an entertainment landscape where 1/2 of it is like boutique versions of God's Not Dead and Daily Wire movies and the other 1/2 is Castration Movie Pt. 2 but it feels like we're heading in that direction lol

I think this was the best season of Slow Horses so far, and I've liked all of them. The suspense/action stuff looked and felt better than it otherwise has and all the usual Jackson Lamb Flatulence Material was right where you want it to be. Admirably nasty shit all around as always.

Obviously it's bad that rich people can buy pardons. But I must lol at these creeps misreading the market and offering bum-ass Alina Habba the sort of money/term that a mid MLB closer gets. You do not need to pay her like she's Pete Fairbanks. Gift cards are fine. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/u...

I feel like this but about the Emirates Cup.

New Yorkers have waited their entire lives for tonight: when the Knicks championship banner will be raised into the rafters of Madison Square Garden. What a testament to the incredible 2025-26 Knicks and the city that stood alongside them every step of the way. LGK.

ADL posting like Merriam Webster every time someone pro-Israel is antisemitic

Prem Thakker ツ@premthakker.bsky.social

The ADL finally chimes in… with one very short post: "The term 'Shylock' is rooted in a longstanding antisemitic stereotype. Regardless of intent, its use can reinforce harmful tropes about Jews and normalize language that has long been used to target the Jewish community."

With the election looming, the GOP is calling in the big guns. Which means having a megachurch freak named Timmy dispatch an army of walleyed 23yo home-school casualties with YouTube diction to opposing candidates' rallies, where they will demand those candidates reject and denounce the WNBA.

Struggling to engage with the concept of “father and son Republican operatives Timmy and Tommy Teepell.” Come on man can even one thing be like 5% less stupid

Trade some middling prospects for Freddy Peralta, instantly break his whole shit and flop so bad that all of America knows what every inch of your ass looks like, trade Peralta for some maybe-better prospects to a team that fixes him instantly. Yeah I'd say this is outcome is a big win for the Mets.

Delightful blog. "Absolutely as much fun as you can have reading an overview of Tears For Fears' career through the lens of one of the lead guys' astrology-obsessed memoir." - David Roth

I guess I'm sorry to this lady but her name being Thelma Louise reminds me of my dad butchering movie titles. "Thelma Louise" is what he'd call Geena Davis.

A bunch of restaurants in my neighborhood have AI generated signage, but mostly that just means I'm seeing more drippy stuff. But one place has a standee with daily specials that also seem AI-generated. I assume the kitchen loves adding one (1) beef rib to every pho order on Tuesdays (dine in only).
