I am reading ‘The Nerd Reich’, a book about technofascism, and it really is fascinating. As observed about Elon; they seem to have no ‘culture’ in terms of art etc. They don’t seem to really love anything, or talk about bright or beautiful or funny things, ever, in terms of their values.

I’m not someone who believes in NPC nonsense; they are people, with internal emotional lives. But we learn a lot about what people hold in their hearts by what they bang on about all the time.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Alien of the Day: The Polarians, as seen in 'Barlowes Guide to Extraterrestrials' from 'Cluster' by Piers Anthony. Wheeled organic life can be hard to pull off outside of the microscopic world, but this is a great solution to the problem!

It's a new week, Bluesky. Trust no poll. Trust no pundit. Vote early if you can. Vote in person if you can.

a cool thing about indie animation is that it's expected to save the entire industry, every show has to look better than the things the fans grew up on or it's a waste of time, there's no union to be found anywhere, no budget for any of it, and asking the audience to pay anything to watch is illegal

Q: Will you disavow the Muslim Brotherhood? El-Sayed: Yes. Why are you asking the question? Do you assume that I wouldn’t? Q: Yes, because I have not heard you disavow them yet. El-Sayed: Have you disavowed them? I have not heard you disavow them yet.

I feel like some people in animation fandoms keep lists of Acceptable and Unacceptable ships, and would absolutely be using them to run brutal real life show-trials if society went maybe 20% further downhill.

I have finally listened to a translation of The Odyssey. Very enjoyable! Though on his return, Odysseus 'Secret Boss'-ing one of his old slaves to say 'sure your story is bad but MY life has been hard as well' was quite funny. I mean come on, man.

I saw Digger... I really enjoyed it! There are excellent performances, including from Cruise, and it evolves in a way you may not expect from the bombastic trailer. It was not entirely the film I expected it to be... and that was an entirely pleasant surprise.

*looking at the worst post of my life* I must not post. Reactive posting is the mind-killer. Dunking is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face the Bad Take. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. When the TL refreshes there shall be nothing. Only I remain.

Zelensky: "When our strikes reached Yandex’s data centers, it suddenly became a little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. A lot of people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, and fewer provocations. Because there were fewer bots. It’s pretty clear where those bots were."

Ossoff: "I think Pete Hegseth is frankly a deeply unwell person who seems to relish this kind of brutality all the while he's running a department that is falling into chaos. The guy cannot run the military competently and is spending his time with this kind of obscene medieval spectacle."

For no reason in particular, if you had to think of/recommend a person that could voice act in a new york-y danny devito type accent AND can sing...you should tell good ol Nicole about it 👀

A page from my art book 'Other Worlds' with clarified text; from the chapter I included of my early art. This was a page for a creature guide I produced for university over two decades ago! You can buy the book here: bookshop.org/p/books/othe... And at the usual outlets (Amazon et al) :)

It seems a special kind of thoughtless evil to spend a fortune to tempt the lonely into virtual relationships with LLMs, only to every year or so lobotomize the same LLMs over and over again, creating a sort of rolling misery for your marks. Tobacco and gambling industry vibes.

Anyone read this? Seems like it might be worth a look...

Tim Goodacre - Writer@timgoodacre.bsky.social

Current reading: @nafeez.bsky.social's "Alt Reich". This is a rich deep-dive into the multinational UK/US/Europe network of far-right personas and organizations that have been working to destroy democracy around the world. This is scary stuff, and necessary reading to understand today's back story.

join the military, you get to starve on a rusting ship that repeatedly sails into and out of the range of enemy missiles in order to manipulate gambling websites where people bet on your death

Internet Historian and JonTron starting a channel together good lord lol. I discovered IH was a chud organically, when he seemed REALLY focused on how bad it was when California released some non-violent offenders during COVID.
