Two years from now, an indie darling (made up of devs laid off by one of these large conglomerates btw) is going to self-publish a physical release of an already great game and it's going to go bananas, and the big industry folks are going to be like "How did this happen??"

That push is exacerbated by the skyrocketing cost of essential PC parts effecting that same consumer, which is driving console & PC costs to unreasonable heights for many. People are going to get scrappy and build their own machines with the parts available (e.g. Steam Machine.)

I'm way out of my depth of expertise here, and just an average 30+ gamer, but it feels like the future is solidifying in a way that is open source, especially given LLM access is so wide (for now.) Which tbh, I think this view is very bleak!

It's wild how this current trend of decisions by these same big-industry types are destabilizing their own near-monopolistic platform (over-simplifying) by actively pushing the general consumer (think ~80% of non-tech-enthusiast ) into open source/alternative platforms. Otherwise uncharted waters.
