Trans dude's cult ends badly

Watched the Madoka 4 camrip, and TBH I have no idea what the hell happened in that movie past the halfway point. (I'm actually kind of disappointed with what I got, but that's probably because I waited 13 years for it...)

After writing my historical horror for NovNov, I'm gonna pivot back to 40-something trans dude phantom thief and edit it/get it ready to be published. Then after that, another pivot back to the historical horror to edit it and get it ready for betas. Why? It just feels right. 🤷 #pretendpanel

At the beginning, yes. He's closeted, his father that he took care of for years just died, he has nothing except a letter from his BFF asking him to come live with her in NYC... But as the story goes on, he gets more powerful (and gets a bit of eldritch madness) he angsts less. #QueerWritersChat

Probably when Roland let the neighbor boy kiss him. (He was still closeted at the time.) The neighbor boy became smitten, and refused to leave him alone after that. (yuck) He's been an unwanted suitor of his for YEARS. Even after he dips to New York City, he tries to find him. #LGBTQWriteAThon

It's one of the best feelings ever. The act of creating in and of itself brings me joy, so even when it can get a bit frustrating, I'm still enjoying myself. #pretendpanel

Just how evil the god that got stuffed in my MC's body is. They do nice things for the MC (the magical transition, cool powers, smiting bigots, giving the MC comfort and love, etc) but how much of that is true kindness, and how much is manipulation? #WeeknightWriters

Definitely straddling the line between Lawful Pantser and Lawful Plantser. As I've gotten older, I've started planning a bit more, which helps me not write myself into a corner nearly as much. If I try to outline, I usually go flying off the rails anyway, so this works for me. #WeeknightWriters

In any other story, Roland would be the villain. Cult leader, worships an evil(?) god, can turn people into pillars of salt or squirming abominations... a very overdone character type/trope. But since he's the protagonist, that subverts a lot of things, I think. #FirstDraftFall #WeeknightWriters

Roland's worst nightmare is being sent back to his old life. Closeted, forced to take care of a dying father, no power, nothing but living in a destitute old town in Bumfuck, Mississippi... He'd rather die than deal with that ever again. #QueerPrompts

No. It's the 1920s, that'd probably get you hate crimed. Both Roland (through magic) and Mary (through mundane transition) pass, so even if it wasn't a huge danger, they wouldn't. (I'm kinda jealous of the people with queernormative worlds tbh.This is just the past but with magic) #QueerPrompts

A cop gets super suspicious of Roland's whole... cult thing once his wife gets swept up into it. (The cop has the same first name as my mother's shit boyfriend lol) Eventually, the entire NYPD gets involved in it. (They all get turned into squirming abominations because ACAB.) #LGBTQWriteAThon

I actually started doing research on common 1920s foods because of this question. I feel like Roland ate normal working class food for the period, but after he starts sharing a body with an evil(?) god, his tastes get... strange. Pica and stuff like that. #FirstDraftFall

Favorite Part: Writing the first draft. Just watching everything slowly come together as I write is great. Least favorite: Editing... also waiting for alpha/beta reader feedback... It's nerve wracking and I always feel like I might be editing it and making it worse lol. #QueerPrompts
