Happy Pride month, all! Way back in 2018 I made these galaxy pride flags. They were shared many thousands of times, featured on Vice, and even made their way onto book covers and into video games. Here are the original ones I created (in no particular order!) so Bluesky can have them too. 💙

Finally updated my website after letting it die when I killed my adobe subscription. Kind of regret deciding to do it myself on neocities. The whole make my own site idea seemed great when I was unemployed, less so these days, but, hey, it's done. I exist on the world wide web once more.

Rolled credits on Blue Prince last night! An absolute bonkers set of runs saved at the last minute by a dining room I forgot about. Not sure if I'm happy to leave it here, or if I want to go after the rest of the puzzles...

this is maybe trite at this point but it is in your interest to find ways to create things. basically everyone wants you to be consuming nonstop. making stuff, from cooking to photography or whatever, can help you feel more in control. doesn’t even have to be something you share with other people

I kinda went silent on here after I asked a "how do you deal with this narrative design thing" question and got a whole load of "well I'm simply good at my job so this isn't a problem" replies. Gonna try and be less sensitive and post again 😅

I'm looking for beta testers for my latest twine game! A boyfriend was all you ever wanted, or thought you wanted, at least. But when your love spell goes wrong, you find yourself face-to-face with soulless husks, perfect parasites and jellyfish that grow teeth. Shoot me a dm if interested ❤️

Game writers / ND's, do you have any techniques for avoiding "gamey" sounding dialogue? The sort of thing where self-talk, objectives etc. sound out-of-character and too clearly directed towards the player.

One of my go-tos is making sure dialogue is directed towards someone, even if no-one is there; something I picked up from writing soliloquies for theater. Who is the audience? Why is this speech directed towards them? Doesn't work in game scenarios, though, so I'd love to here what others do!

Best book I've read in a long time. Ever, even? Rumfitt doesn't pull her punches and is unflinchingly honest with her empathetic and complex characters. The horror elements are shocking, but the novel is so well constructed that it feels earned. Take the content warning seriously.

Read the above so fast that I had to pick up a new book in the airport. Read it in one go. Haven't done that with something novel length since my teens. Another very honest book, with criticism leveled as Kuang's own writing used in the story. Prose is delightfully restrained compared to Babel.

This collection leans more on social realism than The Dangers of Smoking In Bed. Would have liked to see more horror but still a fantastic read. I love Enriquez's sparse yet evocative style. Big inspiration for my current IF project.

Read this in a morning with a cuppa before my partner was even out of bed. Novellas are a gift to this world. Maybe it's a house that eats men, maybe it's generational trauma. Wonderful stuff.

Avoid the part of any writing advice that includes "never" or "always." Sometimes you want a filter word, or an adverb, or passive voice. They're tools, and specific in their use. Be conscious of what you're doing, strive to improve and make elegant, but keep the tool for later. You WILL need it.

if u see this, quote-post with your tips for writers that no one gives anymore because they seem obvious (even though they're not)

Tried this on some lunch break writing and got two sentences in before I'd forgotten what I'd already written 😂. I think this is a really interesting technique, I'd encourage writers with a better memory than me to give it a shot!

I have had the light of creation revealed to me By replacing the default font with one that's literally scribbles, I can't get caught up in spelling, punctuation, formatting, or anything except the words coming out of my head This is an entire page I typed blind tonight and it was AMAZING

It's been a solid 2.5 years now that text and image generators have been a problem and despite near constant claims of 'unlocked potential and democratized creative expression', there hasn't been *one* hit novel, undeniable piece of art, an example of work that people establish a fandom over.

What are people using for streaming music these days? I want to listen to albums more than playlists and be able to see my collection of music over being recommended new stuff. I briefly left Spotify for CDs + Winamp but ended up back on it because I did like the variety and ease of streaming.

I did the first of my "12 next experiences" new year's resolution today by going to a Win Chun class. It was great and some of the philosophy the instructor explained is going straight into the screenplay I'm writing, but it got me thinking about memory and recording as a writer.

Of course I keep a notebook, but my memory is poor, and I worry that even the notes I've made on my phone after the class aren't accurate. I thought about taking notes during or using a recorder, but the purpose of the exercise is to create experience I can draw on over a career of writing.
