Hurricane Isaias' eventual landfall location was inside of all 13 track forecast cones issued by the National Hurricane Center from formation through landfall. 🧐

[3/6] 2) An interactive map that allows you to explore sea-level change projections in the database that focus on an end-of-century (2100) time horizon. (In time, we'll update this to include additional maps exploring projections that extend to other time horizons of focus in the research).

Some important differences between the conventional physics-based models (European and American ensembles are 1st and 2nd panels) and the AI models (Google Deepmind operational and experimental ensembles are 3rd and 4th panels). The differences in both track and intensity are obvious. #Isaias

4) The inclusion of "low-confidence" sea-level projections in IPCC AR6 has greatly improved agreement between high-end sea-level projections from the IPCC and individual studies (🧵 5/6)

5) Across studies, the timings at which critical amounts of sea-level change occur is often similar for projections published in different eras and using different methodologies (🧵 6/6)

2) Long-term (beyond 2100) projections primarily appear only after 2010 in the literature, and are generally much less common than projections for the end of the century (🧵 3/6)

As a reminder, @agu.org abstracts are due Wed., 5 August. If your research relates to coastal climate change, we hope you'll submit an abstract to our interdisciplinary session on "Dynamic Coastlines amidst Changing Sea Levels." Please also consider sharing this post to help us get the word out!

Jennifer Walker, Isabel Hong, and I will once again be convening our "Dynamic Coastlines Amidst Changing Sea Levels" session at the 2026 @agu.org meeting. If you work in the coastal climate change space, we hope you'll consider submitting an abstract to the session! agu.confex.com/agu/agu26/pr...

Reposting: if you're a coastal climate scientist attending the 2026 @agu.org fall meeting, we hope you'll submit an abstract to our session on Dynamic Coastlines! We've has great conversations in years past at this session, and look forward to more exciting science in San Francisco this year!

Climate.us is live. Built by members of the team behind Climate.gov, this new independent nonprofit website keeps trusted climate information easy to find, easy to use, and harder to erase. #ClimateForUs #ClimateUS

The @agu.org Chapman Conference on Updating Usable Projections of Future Sea Level in Montreal last week was a great meeting! I was glad to be able to attend, share a talk on my work looking at the evolution of global sea level projections, and hear from so many other talented experts in the field.

Had a great week at the International Summer School organized in Venice last week! It was the perfect place for discussions on coastal climate change. I delivered a keynote lecture focused on my work with sea level projections, and had great conversations with the other participants.

Cuts to federal science funding means we’ll be more vulnerable to hurricanes and nor’easters here in the Mid-Atlantic.

When we cut critical Federal funds for science, we all pay the price. The impacts of this loss of scientific innovation will be felt especially acutely in our coastal communities. Check out my latest op-ed, published today in The Philadelphia Inquirer, to learn more! share.inquirer.com/iC6tHv

If allowed to go through, this will be catastrophic for science in the U.S., and by extension, the global community, given the vital role that the U.S. has played in the scientific community for decades.

My colleague, environmental scientist @andrajgarner.bsky.social, has a paper out about the variability and inconsistency of spring weather being a climate change concern. Tomorrow the forecast calls for a 40° change in temperature. (Never mind a third consecutive day of 90+ in May.)

Excited to share our latest work, published today in Eos! The U.S. has led and helped to fund about a third of all global sea level projections ever produced. Now, attacks on science in the U.S. have left the field at a precipice.

U.S. scientists and federal funding have been key contributors to global scientific sea level projection research. Those roles are now threatened, write @andrajgarner.bsky.social, @bobkopp.net, @gggarner121.bsky.social, Aimée B. A. Slangen, and Benjamin P. Horton. eos.org/opinions/the...

Excited to see our paper on springtime temperature variability get some coverage from @bloomberg.com! I was glad to contribute to this piece by @eroston.bsky.social

Story ideas come from weird places. Last month I turned on the AC 2 days after running the heat. Then 2 days later the AC was off and the heat on. This prompted the q: "Is this normal?" The answer: "I mean, what is normal anymore?" A jv with @emmarcourt.bsky.social www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

In our 2024 paper, we show that a warmer climate has made springtime temperatures throughout the state of New Jersey less consistent than in years past, and that temperature variations that do occur are becoming more extreme.

This past week, I was in Washington, D.C., where I had the opportunity to join colleagues from @agu.org for visits to our legislative offices. Together, we advocated for continued support of Earth and space science. It was a busy week, but very energizing!

It's been a busy few weeks of travel, starting with the Ocean Sciences Meeting in Glasgow, Scotland! We had lots of excellent talks and posters in the sessions we convened on Dynamic Coastlines in a Changing Climate. It was great to hear more about the exciting work being done in this area! #OSM2026

Coming up at 2:00 pm at #OSM2026! We hope you'll join us for our session on Dynamic Coastlines Amidst Changing Sea Levels: Advancements in Understanding the Impacts of Climate Change on Coastal Hazards!

We had a great turn out at our Dynamic Coastlines poster session this afternoon! Looking forward to some excellent talks in our session tomorrow. If you're at #OSM2026, we hope you'll join us from 2:00-3:30 for more discussions on coastal climate impacts!

Hey #OSM2026! We hope you'll stop by the first of our "Dynamic Coastlines" sessions this afternoon in the poster hall. We're roughly between boards 815-863. Hope to see you there to talk about coastal climate change impacts!

Great to catch up with colleagues at AGU in New Orleans!
