I spent 4 terms in local gov focused on climate action, reconciliation, social justice & a stronger democracy. I left in 2018 to figure out why Trump got elected. Now I teach power literacy & help courageous people take action on bold, progressive ideas.

Our 1st episode is about….the ballot question! Affordability has been the big issue in every election at every level of government for a decade. But every party (including Ken Sim and ABC) agrees Vancouver is unaffordable. Who they blame for it is the interesting part. #vanpoli

For everyone wondering how the Vancouver municipal election is going and notwithstanding this morning’s news

Sean Orr beefing with Uncouver, Rebecca Bligh beefing with Kareem Allam surrogates, OneCity supporters beefing with anyone who says Pete Fry is good, and Ken Sim having a nice pina colada after a 600 person launch event and a summer of creating politically effective wedge issues

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else. We mustn’t let this war do so.

This is bonkers. It’s hard to imagine the context for a government to be too busy to deal with a well-organized and efficient structure for connecting with community in order to make better decisions than you would otherwise make because you’re too busy to deal with community in less efficient ways.

Today, the City of Vancouver released a staff report recommending the dissolution of 10 of 11 Type A Civic Committees because, and I'm paraphrasing, staff are too busy to deal with them. council.vancouver.ca/20251209/doc... Disclosure: I'm co-chair of the Transportation Advisory Committee (TRAC)

Will speaking out help? Hard to say — this council has made it harder for residents to participate in decisions, and it’s easy to feel cynical about how much they’re listening. But staying silent definitely won’t help. 📢

Local governments control over 50% of emissions sources in Canada. What Vancouver does matters — here and worldwide. When federal governments stalled climate action (remember the Harper era?), cities like Vancouver kept pushing forward — helping build momentum toward the Paris Agreement. 🔥➡️✍️🇫🇷

Federal agents violently detained a food delivery driver as he emerged from a D.C. coffee shop Saturday morning. The incident captured on video showed the officers throwing him to the ground and beating him before sweeping him away in an unmarked vehicle. wapo.st/45Egtkc

In the long fight to compel governments to action, today is a big day. Giant congrats to the big team that has spent over six years pursuing this landmark ruling. The substance matters: the hope and energy it is mobilizing matters even more.

Andrew Cuomo just conceded to a socialist and I am not even sure we are at peak 2025 yet

Lots to like in this cabinet. On the issues that I’m passionate about it’s great to see equally passionate and experienced folks like Gregor Robertson, Julie Dabrusin, Mandy Gull-Masty, Rebeccas Alty & Chartrand, Buckley Belanger. Also great to see WAGE restored with Rechie Valdez at the helm.
