Deftones and KoRn doing an "opposite Velvet Underground" where way too many people started a band after listening to them and they were all awful.

My thinking on the 4:3 aspect ratio in You Can See Everything is as simple as "We're not going to crop this, it's in open gate, you're seeing everything we saw while shooting it."

Gun Kata battle with Noah after he said we've reached our monkey quota

Dang... a few hours too late to get Two Gallants tix at Bottom of the Hill in SF. Sold out! First show they've played in 10 years! Bummer. Happy for them though.

Now that I've seen it, I will say this aesthetic makes much more sense and doesn't lean on the abstract vibe of "flat for VFX." Also, given the story turn in the film I realize how difficult this was to accurately advertise so I'm giving it much more grace. Goodman and Ahmed are fantastic.

Bold move for Digger to go with an even greater desaturated color grading than the one everyone hated in Wicked.

In order to do a thing that's never, ever going to happen, SpaceX first has to do a thing that NASA did over half a century ago.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

On its 14th test flight, SpaceX’s Starship is finally going to circle the Earth. That’s important because for Starship to deploy satellites, travel to more distant destinations like the moon and achieve Elon Musk’s dreams of sending people to Mars, it has to first enter orbit.

After a good night's rest to ponder this behavior I'm now near certain this guy was, in fact, Doug Ellin.

Guy next to me on this flight spent 45 minutes watching a video podcast interview with Doug Ellin, then immediately opened the HBO app and started season 1 episode 1 of Entourage.

(posting from my alt, Cig Ads That Go Hard) "oooooooh shit, shots fired!" *four days later* "Cigarette Ads That Go Hard never intended to to create controversy or imply in any way that the attacks of September 11th were justified OR the result of cigarettes. Please accept our deepest apologies."

The ABC copter team covers the tragic crash and death of the NBC copter team. There's probably some specific Latin or German philosophy term for this kind of situation where the tool that caused the tragedy is also the best tool for learning about the tragedy, but I'm just gonna call it "fucked up."

My singular goal this holiday season is to finally get a pic of the Glendale Police bear cat that drives around with Santa sticking out the top portal while waving at kids like a beauty queen.

I am begging video podcasts to find any other background aesthetic. There are so many talented designers and art directors you can hire instead of doing this.

lol at this guy who has spent years starting every letterboxd review of a billy crystal movie lamenting his death

Brian Schmid@schmanthonyp.bsky.social

It's so funny looking at the 1992 Toronto International Film Festival and seeing what played in the gala and it's like, two dozen of the most extremely influential films of its era...and Billy Crystal's MR. SATURDAY NIGHT lol

Latest sewing project: I ordered a sick Ben Davis workwesr crewneck off eBay (I grew up in the Bay Area) but turns out the "XL" was sized for a different market and thus far too small for me. So... I turned it into a crop for my wife. Happy with the results and jealous it was never gonna fit me.

I'm sorry to say that David Zaslav and other studio execs are not going to learn the proper lesson that withholding a film for a write-off is bad. They will attribute the film's success to the genius idea of creating false scarcity that generated free marketing.

ToonHive@toonhive.bsky.social

‘COYOTE VS. ACME’ has now officially surpassed the $30M amount Warner Bros. originally planned to write the film off for. The film is now projected to earn over $60M domestically.

Film tax credits are a band-aid solution that will fail without a follow-up plan. Just ask Michigan, Louisiana and Georgia how the one-step plan worked out for them. Producing studios will always seek the cheaper market while you race to the bottom with subsidies. Also, this is embarrassing.

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

I am in strong agreement with the President. Congress should immediately take up and pass a federal film tax incentive to bring back these good-paying jobs that we've lost to other countries.
