Just replace tvtwm with xmonad in a running X11 session. No problem, with one tiny trick. In #wayland? Forget about it.

Current linuxen make it really hard to run two user sessions on the same hosts - there's just one display manager, and e.g. gnome can't be properly started from the CLI on another VT. And they know why. #wayland

No, #wayland without Xwayland is still unusable for most purposes. Given that wayland was to get rid of X11, we'll be stuck for it for a very long time, apparently. And o/c every compositor needs its personal support for Xwayland. Did you think Xwayland just talks wayland protocol. 'course not.

You configured your screen configuration in gnome, and want to try #sway? Well, do your configuration again. No #xrandr equivalent. Your fourth mouse button? Dito. Keyboard layout? Dito.

No, half the programs will display their dialogs in the wrong session (although that's an xdg-portal thing, not specifically #wayland).

No, ptyxis will open in the wrong session, should you run 'ptyxis --new-window' within a 'ptyxis -s'-generate window. #wayland
