it can matter to you because it matters to, say, katherine (or orin or john or whomever else). it can matter to you because other things that matter are easier to engage with amidst joy than amidst misery. it can matter to you because nothing awaits you in the divine for resisting your own joy.

As we see ANOTHER huge drop in the cost of curing tuberculosis, I am reminded that 1. drugs are not expensive because they're made of platinum or something, and 2. the fruits of activism are often harvested over many years. Thanks to all the folks who made this happen. www.stoptb.org/news/breakin...

At least there are trees. When I was younger, I thought trees were a big stupid waste of time except insofar as they provide us with oxygen. Now, when I am sad and on the edge of something worse than sad, I think, "At least there are trees."

Remembering Dr. Alan Hart for Pride, trans man from the early 1900s. He revolutionized the detection of tuberculosis, saved thousands of lives, and died using his name, as the man he always was meant to be. We have always been here.

I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

As a young person, I needed to see a grown up pushing back against everything. Thank you, Senator.

Sen. Cory Booker@booker.senate.gov

I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:

Hearing from Community Partners International, which works from Myanmar to Bangladesh, that USAID cuts mean 14,000 people with HIV losing access to lifesaving meds and a total stop in all HIV and TB screening. So many people will die due to these chaotic, sudden, horrifically implemented cuts.

I don’t process acronyms well. I’m a pretty literal person, so that’s part of it. Also, a lot of meaning gets lost when things are abbreviated. Prime example: DEI. Instead of saying “DEI”, we should say the entire phrase, Divisity, Equity and Inclusion. Doing that…clarifies things.

Hopefully this judgement will be honored by the Trump administration and aid will begin to flow again. It's worth repeating: The President of the U.S. does not decide where or how our tax money is spent. That is Congress's job. That's why Trump keeps losing in court. apnews.com/article/usai...

apnews.comJudge orders Trump administration to temporarily allow funds for foreign aid to flow againA federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to temporarily lift a three-week funding freeze that has shut down U.S. aid and development programs abroad.

Yes AND call your reps/attorney generals and tell them it’s bad

I am really frustrated that the press is discussing the destruction of USAID as something that has happened rather than an illegal action that will likely be undone in two weeks when courts tell the world that it was illegal.

🚨 With the U.S. pulling back from global health aid, the world faces a gaping hole in funding essential health care. Canada and other countries need to step up, as does the philanthropic sector. #AidForImpact #GlobalHealthJustice @partnersinhealth.bsky.social @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social

It is very easy to call your representatives’ offices. They have to log your calls and the call numbers are meaningful. You don’t even have to try to convince anyone; just call and tell them your concerns. They are there to represent you. Let them know what that means. www.usa.gov/elected-offi...

Over 100 refugees who were scheduled to be resettled in Indiana have seen their flights canceled in the last two days. Refugees make our state stronger, and the bipartisan support for U.S. refugee resettlement has been a pillar of our nation for over a century.

You won't believe this. My team and I make this show called SciShow that works hard to be rigorous and accurate while also being appealing and entertaining. We reach a LOT of people every year with episodes about crabs and neutrinos and gender and cancer and vaccines. It's great, I love it.
