1,579 killed. 30,000 hurt on our roads last year — many more deaths than homicides. Pleased with the Victims’ Commissioner intervention. Road crime victims feel forgotten by the system. This is exactly why we need a Road Safety Victim Charter and lifetime bans. www.theguardian.com/law/2026/aug...

Days 1 & 2 done. Hard miles in 30/40 zones reinforced how insulated drivers are—soundproofed, aircon, music—easy to forget your vehicle’s power. Heard horns aimed at frustration, not danger. Some passed too close, too fast. Tough, but it’s why I’m doing this for Brake. Thank you for sponsoring! 🙏

Day one complete. So hot, and I’m not as young or as fit as I’d like to be! 😅 Digger joined me right at the end, doing her best to look like she’d run the whole way 😊. Huge thanks to everyone who’s sponsored so far — really appreciate it, and I know it makes a difference to Brake!

I’m running 200km over 7 days to demand safer roads. On average, 30 people are killed every week on UK roads — deaths that are preventable. I’m raising funds for the charity Brake, who support bereaved families & crash victims. Please donate if you can. Thank you! www.justgiving.com/page/andy-co...

178mph. A life lost. Driving is a privilege, not a right — this extreme speed with lethal consequences warrants nothing less than a lifetime ban. We revoke firearms licences for less. Why should a vehicle user be any different? Protect every road user. #RoadSafety www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Some drivers feel untouchable - soundproofed, tech-laden, insulated from the world outside. That isolation breeds complacency, while pedestrians and cyclists feel the danger every time these vehicles fly past. Drivers need to put safety before convenience and time saved.

1,144 uninsured vehicles seized across Northamptonshire in last 5 months. 600 disposed of — on top of penalty points & rocketing premiums. Why is this important? Well.. Uninsured drivers are 7x more likely to be in a fatal crash, more likely to flee the scene & over half are linked to other crime.

And importantly… every single reporter was updated with the outcome of their report. Why? Well…It gives clarity, improves future reporting, encourages more reports — and it’s just good manners!!

Huge thanks to Northamptonshire’s road crime reporters! In 2026 so far: 1,252 reports → 713 positive outcomes. • 14 to court • 161 with penalty points • 452 on courses • 86 letters Police can’t be everywhere 24/7, but the public can. Your eyes on the road are reducing harm & saving lives. 🙏

A driver was trapped and seriously injured on the A14 — and 11 people slowed down to FILM it. Disgraceful. No empathy. No decency. Just content. We tracked every one of them down. All prosecuted. Good. 👏 #RoadSafety” www.northants.police.uk/news/northan...

Horrific and a devastating human tragedy. Why has there not been wider mainstream coverage and debate about this case? Some crimes rightly dominate headlines for weeks. Yet road crimes even of this magnitude do not. Increased awareness can help create safer travel. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Public reporting provides eyes 24/7, deterrence, enforcement opportunities and saves lives. We accept public reporting for every other crime type, so why such contention re road crime? Do otherwise law-abiding road offenders fail to recognise the harm they cause? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Each figure in this poignant display represents a person injured or killed in a road crash in Northamptonshire during 2025 — 1,354 injured, 331 seriously injured and 26 killed. Utterly devastating! We hope it raises awareness, improves driver culture and influences safer travel policy. #RoadSafety

In 2025, Northamptonshire Police seized 2,540 uninsured vehicles, and disposed of 1,256. Driving uninsured signals risk-taking & links to wider criminality—posing real danger & undermining safe travel. This enforcement tackles their criminality and risk but also serves law abiding insurance payers.

Facial recognition is a step change for public safety—helping locate those wanted for serious violence and sexual offences. Like DNA before it, it will continue to improve and embed nationwide, bringing offenders to justice and preventing further harm.

Uninsured driving isn’t victimless. Offenders are 6–7x more likely to be in a fatal crash, and over half are linked to wider criminality—reflecting risk-taking, disregard for the law, or deception. It pushes up costs for honest drivers. Tackling it protects communities. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Use of dangerous driving as a weapon against passengers is something that needs to be better recognised. In domestic abuse cases, and also anywhere else that someone is threatened in such a manner. It couldn't be more clear who is in control, and who is being controlled. It's about public safety.

The law on dangerous driving is confusing because most have lost an understanding of what minimum driving standards look like. (Not my choice of headline) www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

“Exceptional hardship” is granted (for proven habitual road crime offenders) in around 1 in 5 cases—yet the definition of exceptional is “rare and extraordinary”. In the UK, 5 people will die today in a road collision. We should prioritise safe travel, not leniency for repeat offenders.

102mph in a 30mph zone is an utterly appalling, selfish, dangerous criminal act. Yet only a 12-year driving ban (after the sentence ends). Why should bereaved families face more trauma knowing one day he’ll return to the road? Should lifetime bans be the default? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Active travel brings clear benefits—better health, less congestion, directly tackles the climate and energy crisis, and reduces road danger. We must build confidence, create environments and improve culture to better support it. Why don’t we see a stronger push? cyclingindustry.news/uk-governmen...

The ban is right. I question where else repeated offending attracts mitigation like this. “Exceptional hardship” is lived daily by crash victims and bereaved families. My sympathy will always be with them—not the habitual road offender. Should we remove this provision? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A tragic death should unite us in empathy—yet too often it exposes blame and division. We need a societal reset: the purpose of any journey is to arrive safely. Behind the wheel, dignity and humility matter—yet too many act with selfish dominance. Where else is risking others’ lives so prevalent?

Driving at 93mph dramatically reduces reaction time, increases stopping distance, and makes any collision far more severe. That’s not a mistake, it’s a conscious and selfish criminal risk. Speeding kills. Make it socially unacceptable like drink driving. Call it out!! news.sky.com/story/englan...

Operation Relentless is underway. On day one, we located and arrested 3 of our top 10 most wanted offenders. This is focused, determined action to tackle high-harm crime and make our communities safer—including our roads. www.northants.police.uk/news/northan...

How do I break the news to Digger that I’ve booked leave on “Bring Your Dog to Work Day” (26th June)? 😬🙈

Introducing by end of March a new approach in Northamptonshire. We’ll target our Top 10 Most Wanted offenders and Top 100 most dangerous drivers using intel, ANPR & Live Facial Recognition to drive arrests, vehicle seizures, drugs and weapons off our streets. Looking forward to sharing results!

Encouraging she’s taking steps to address personal issues. But my thoughts are with victims of drink drivers. 7 people died in Northamptonshire last year and around 250 die nationally each year in drink-drive crashes. It is selfish, dangerous & criminal. No excuses! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Deployed with our Safer Roads Team in an enforcement van. They’re out 7 days a week across Northamptonshire. In 90 mins we saw one driver at 80 in a 70. The rest were safe & compliant. Their work saves lives. Each year, around 20 people die due to speed on our roads — leaving families devastated.

Drunk. More than twice the speed limit. And a coward. If it were up to me, he would never ever be allowed to drive again. Driving is a privilege, not a right — and when you abuse it with such reckless disregard for life, I feel you should face permanent consequences. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

7 people killed in 2025 by drink drivers in our county. That’s not a lapse — it’s criminal, selfish behaviour that destroys families. 110 arrests during Christmas campaign. Update attached is latest ‘named’ offenders Court outcomes. Accountability matters. www.northants.police.uk/news/northan...

Stationary phone distraction isn’t harmless — the evidence is clear. It impairs hazard detection and reaction time, with effects lasting well beyond the interaction. This is road danger and it can (and does) have fatal consequences. Academic research strongly backs it (see pic). Enforcement matters.

Dear oh dear…. Regardless of the legal rights and wrongs — what about compassion and decency? Someone is hurt, yet the same officer issues a ticket 🙈. How about simply caring for the injured cyclist?! And the helmet argument drifts back to victim-blaming. Never a good idea!

Also… Modern vehicles — with their power, tech, in-car comms and soundproofing — can detach drivers from the reality of their speed and risk. I feel it when road running as cars surge past. If drivers experienced that perspective, more might focus on their most important task: arriving safely.

Great video — but the real issue is driver culture. Why rush past a cyclist only to sit at the next red light, where they catch up anyway? Adding real risk for only a few seconds — or often zero gain. We wouldn’t barge ahead in a normal queue, so why do it behind the wheel? #RoadSafety #Cycling

Meeting our comms team this week to consider how best we establish a Northamptonshire Police Bluesky account. What do you want from a corporate police account? More transparency? Local updates? Road danger reduction info? Outcomes? How can we better inform, engage and build trust? Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your experiences — many sound deeply frustrating. We clearly have more to do! Fatal crashes aren’t inevitable. Policing, like other agencies, and broader society, must better tackle road danger. I’ll work to make Northamptonshire a centre of excellence and share what we learn.

US-based, but the irony of this headline stood out. Stop using “accident” — it implies unavoidable or bad luck. Most collisions are caused by choices. Using “collision” shifts perception to focus on driver responsibility, can change culture & create safer roads. www.mauslawfirm.com/how-hit-and-...
