There isn't an autism and ADHD overdiagnosis problem. If you get a formal diagnosis, they used a widely accepted test to check against well established criteria. If that stretches resources, it is a problem with funding, not diagnosis. Self diagnosis is valid too.

Also shows how disabled people - at all levels and in all professions - are more likely to become victims of crime and exploitation. "I was like one of this big group that she was targeting, like primarily people with disabilities, elderly, like older actors in the industry."

Kelly@broadwaybabyto.bsky.social

RJ Mitte was a fierce advocate for disability justice. He had cerebral palsy and his disability was a central part of his character on Breaking Bad. Despite the shows success, Mitte lost most of his earnings due to an unscrupulous business manager. The “crip tax” is real.

Here's the autism, ADHD and mental health review. I'd recommend at least scanning through the exec summary (20ish pages) to understand what they actually found, which isn't quite what the headlines are saying (though elements are still worrying!) www.gov.uk/government/p...

When the final report comes out, please consider reading at least the exec summary if you can. Don't rely on publications that have already drawn their own conclusions and benefit from your outrage-sharing. You are no more immune to clickbait and misinformation than anybody else.

With the final report of the autism, ADHD and mental health review expected soon, here's a reminder of what their interim report actually said. We, as a community, helped bury this by giving all our attention to a misleading Times headline on publication day instead. Let's not do that again.

Rather than reposting and spreading a deliberately inflammatory headline, I'd recommend at least skimming the executive summary (7 pages) of the autism/ADHD prevalence report itself. It's not beyond criticism, but it's also not saying what The Times etc claims it does. www.gov.uk/government/p...

"One of the data analysts for Netflix told me that one of the key reasons for the success at that time of Sense8 was due to the stunning number of times viewers would come to the end and watch the show again almost immediately. Some watched it end to end four or five times."

J. Michael Straczynski@straczynski.bsky.social

There's been a lot of discussion lately about how one can write comic book TV shows and movies (and other genres) either for the fans, or to appeal to a larger audience. I don't agree with that position, and wrote about it here (free access): jmichaelstraczynski.substack.com/p/the-humani...

Finally, a film list done properly (with the care and attention to detail of a music challenge)

Centuries of Sound@centuriesofsound.bsky.social

A few years ago I compiled three lists of best films and started watching, in chronological order. Posted about them at the other place for a short while. Encouraging myself to keep on at it by posting them here! Let's go.

One of my favourite Bluesky accounts. Congratulations on five years.

I Photoshop Paddington into a movie, TV show, or pop culture until I forget: Day 1821 My 5 year anniversary of Paddington Photoshops! A big thanks to everyone who liked, shared, and commented along the way!

The problem is people see "disabled" and "injured" as completely different things. They know they can be injured - that's bad luck and can happen to anyone. That's what hospitals are for. But they see disability as something else. It's from birth. It's benefits, not hospitals. It's other people.

Kelly@broadwaybabyto.bsky.social

Anyone can become disabled at any time. Your life can change in an instant, no matter how strong and healthy you think you are. People will leave you. Funds will dry up. Life will get tougher. It’s not a moral failing. It’s a minority group you can join anytime.

The "diagnosed but not told" autistic people tend to get forgotten in the debates within the community about masking, diagnosis, etc. It's probably more common than we realise. We need to do more to fight the fear and embarrassment about autism that still causes parents to do it.

Paiix (🌙)@paiixofthepack.bsky.social

My mother hid a potential autism diagnosis from me until I very nearly lost my job and had to seek help. The revelation that my entire family knew except me absolutely destroyed me. I confronted her about it and she didn't think it was a big deal.

They are still rolling the pitch. The test match hasn't started yet.

Georgia Harper@mindtheflap.bsky.social

Reminder as you read the morning papers and watch the breakfast news: The Schools White Paper isn't actually out yet. Until it's published - hopefully not too much longer now - and we've had a chance to actually read it, the Government sets the agenda and we're all just reacting to a press release.

Shane Carruth. Upstream Color is a phenomenal film, but some aspects of the story land different once you know what happened offscreen.

A Ponk Named Slickback@marqmywords.bsky.social

Question for the Skyline: What was your HARDEST "cancel"?? Like the actor/singer/athlete that was the hardest to drop. I feel like it's always people I don't fw getting canceled so it's never really a loss. The hardest one was maybe TI because I actually liked multiple albums by him.

The past couple of weeks have been spent fixing up the pages I've already worked on, including tweaking the artwork (making it less wonky) and adding missed panels. Deadlines are approaching, but the graphic memoir is looking really nice so far! :)

Any suggestions for a kdrama to watch? I've liked Twenty Five Twenty One and Extraordinary Attorney Woo and am looking for something similar (slightly escapist, but not fantasy, occasional sob). Ideally on UK Netflix.

Just learned 'access fatigue' 🤯 meaning: the effects of constantly having to explain, teach, & reinvent access. This demand wears us down, shapes how we see ourselves, and makes pushing for inclusion harder. It IS exhausting. I'm so glad I have the vocabulary for this now. #DisabilityJustice

Just six minutes into watching the video and Georgia has already nailed it. The problem with the "is autism overdiagnosed?" debate is that (by using a sleight of hand) "overdiagnosed" doesn't mean what you think it means. Exhibit a:

Georgia Harper@mindtheflap.bsky.social

Now that the "overdiagnosis" framing seems to have been adopted wholesale by government (or at least large swathes of the media), I should probably plug The Video again youtu.be/JDxVGtarAME?...

Which type / number of dice is the most satisfying to roll? Personally, I’m leaning towards two six-sided dice, I think, but I’m interested in what other people feel. (Re-skeets appreciated). Also realising that in this case, *size is important*.

Here are some inks, before I fix/edit them and apply shading. This scene could do with just a little more context, but it's spread out over many prior pages, which I can fit here: I was misbehaving more around this time, which explains my keyworker/LSW's mood (1/2)
