Again one of the most frustrating things about all of this is the GOP gets that a college education makes you more likely to vote democratic but democrats themselves don’t do much to prop up universities. And I promise you the occupational training uni won’t do this as well as the liberal arts one

Ryan Enos@ryanenos.bsky.social

Wild and revealing interview with Steve Bannon about Trump's attack on universities. ""Universities, Bannon said, are the only reason that Democrats are “able to compete with us.”" www.bostonglobe.com/2026/10/27/n...

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

I think it's totally true that conservatives (among others) think sex assault claims are usually made up but that the main thing that's going on with the disastrous Vivek ad is that most ppl at the forefront of conservative politics are completely lacking in empathy. They don't, and sort of can't

care that that happened to her, so that frees them up to be like whoa dude, her OWN MOM called her a LIAR? What an EPIC SLAM. And it's why their defense has been "context? Whoa, we never meant it to have a context lady, get real"

It could have been worse, they actually hid him on Skyros for two years

a 14 year old is the new youngest player in the history of the greek basketball league and i promise you are not prepared for just how much this professional basketball player looks like a normal ass 14 year old

The other thing about this is they do it bc they think you are going to say I understand why they’re doing it, it’s Iowa, go ahead and do this to trans people so you can win. The only way to get them to stop is to make them feel that isn’t true

Yglesias has been canceled in my mind for a very long time but one thing I will never forget is his criticism of The Episcopal Church when our Presiding Bishop decided we weren't going to partner with Marco Rubio to facilitate the racist "White Afrikaans Only" refugee policy.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

As these things go this is probably decent news in the sense that this is almost certainly going to fail and is likely to galvanize turnout for Peltola - people don't like being told the gov plans to steal their vote. But, normalizing this stuff is simultaneously very bad

BREAKING: The Trump Justice Department has moved to preemptively block certification of the results of Alaska's Senate race if Republican incumbent Sen. Dan S. Sullivan loses.

Dems do have to do something, if they can, to vastly disincentivize this sort of nonsense but the more insidious nonsense is just the House or Senate refusing to seat people which you can't do anything about unless you're really committed.

The endless credulity when it comes to Musk in general. It's a byproduct of the media's self-fantasy about reporting from nowhere, no bias, which means, no memory, but weren't we supposed to be on Mars by now

Andrew Lawrence@ndrew.bsky.social

if you ever write an article about a guy saying hes done with politics and then a month or so later hes making the largest political donation in history then you need to quit and find another line of work

If Trump and Vance share one thing it is the belief that you win debates by refusing to ever back down for any reason which luckily they share with hundreds of thousands of young fascists in the US but the Vivek thing is a good example of why it'll take a lot more social engineering to get their way

It is genuinely one of the most disgusting things that has happened this campaign season, it's not going to stop being one of the most disgusting things no matter how much Vance and Trump try to back him up, everyone can understand "if your mother whose husband raped you says you're a liar" -

I always think that there's this bind the dem party in particular has been in since, let's say Clinton, where the political instinct is to affirm American values in a way that cuts against leftier approaches in order to appeal to the middle. As a political instinct it certainly had its day but

e.w. niedermeyer@niedermeyer.online

nobody stopped Musk before he broke the state monopoly on violence, so now either he goes or the nation-state does

it always had this flaw. You don't want to seem, say, anti-religious, so you make sure to affirm religious liberty, but then you can't do anything about illiberal tendencies in certain religious groups. You don't want to seem impractical about education so you don't defend the humanities etc.

And obviously, you don't want to seem anti-business, so you don't say anything about huge accumulations of power and wealth in the hands of just a few people but it turns out all of these are real problems, not just discursive problems that only matter in terms of campaign rhetoric

The Mavs have all these great complementary players because they got them to play with the best offensive player in the game but without him they are all too high on the depth chart by 3 spaces

KEVINWAYNE STUMP@stump.bsky.social

Mavs looking deadly tonight.

I think even worse than this is the constant barrage of emails raising shit by 2 dollars, there's something about it that's so demoralizing. But they should for sure should hurry up and finish reinventing cable

The other thing about this that drives me crazy is they all have a conversational style now but that does NOTHING if I DON’T KNOW WHO THESE FUCKING PEOPLE ARE. Hey Andrew, it’s Frank, time for us all to pull together. Who are you!!!

Molly Knight@mollyknight.bsky.social

Do they even understand how much they’re pissing people off by doing this. Whatever research that convinces them that spamming everyone is all upside is bullshit. It is like they’d rather have all my contact info to sell to other campaigns forever than receive my donation. It sucks.

The worst part is, you have to feed it blood
