I love the idea of answering this question with “not sure” Should we a kill a man on live television? Hard to say, depends on the day.

I guess kash has been getting Into the really weird anime.

The worst thing about FSU is they don’t respect my time. They're gonna lose, but they’re gonna take forever to do it and try to convince me they won’t. Just get blown out so I can go to bed.

I started the day by seeing someone say that we should combat misogyny by teaching girls to kill without remorse and closing the day by seeing people genuinely angry over the term “spreadsheet people”. It’s been a good day on bluesky.

I woils think that inflation consistently outpacing wage growth for like 70 years would be an important factor here, but what do I know? Maybe people just love shitty stuff.

I think my most genuinely unpopular take is that a widely held and genuine consumer preference for cheaper, lower-quality goods, not private equity, is driving the decline in quality of consumer goods like clothing and housewares.

Hi I’m Sophie Cunningham and Diversity and Inclusion is when I get to advocate about who I think should be excluded from sports. I am very smart.

The Athletic@theathletic.com

Speaking for the first time since ralliers began assembling in support of her stance against transgender participation in women’s sports, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham said this was an opportunity for the WNBA to uphold its values of diversity and inclusion. nyti.ms/4fHr4Qn

1) Ones use or lack of use of these conventions has no relationship to the quality of their writing. LLMs use of them is notable because it uses them in bad, sloppy ways. 2) We didn’t use to have the word for it, but part of why AI makes slop is because people have spent decades making it before.

Scoiattolo@scarnecchia.net

Is fun how the general public is convinced that things I've been using for decades—em-dashes, the rule of three, and now, apparently, serif fonts—are signifiers for slop. We're training people to use bad heuristics and we're going to make both design and the written word worse.

There’s a lot that can be said here as explanation, but what’s the point? Data centers suck. if they do what they are supposed to, which they won’t, they’d still suck. I don’t care why people think they suck, them hating the things is all I ask.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

Genuinely don’t understand what’s happening here - it’s not like there’s been some major data center disaster. It feels like a meme around an issue the public only loosely understands to begin with

An AI being like “who would trump probably heal? Jeffery Epstein.” Is so funny. Even funnier is Trumps brain being so addled at this point that he didn’t notice that the second most prominent guy in this picture looks like Jeffery Epstein.

Brian Kaylor@briankaylor.bsky.social

And Trump posted an image of himself as some sort of American Jesus healing people.

Look, I’m not gonna tell anyone they can’t love their racist Grandpa. But maybe don’t use that to make larger point about people changing, and definitely don’t include a photo of them wearing the imperial eagle.

@mallorymcmorrow.bsky.social’s campaign finance co-chair, Kelly Neumann, posted this on Veterans Day 2024. Her grandfather fought in WW1 and WW2… for the Germans… then escaped to Brasil.

It’s December 2026. You’re stuck waiting to pickup your friend at the airport who has been delayed for 6 hours because an ICE agent shot a fast food worker in the airport they flew out of. You want to drive back home, but gas is 10 dollars a gallon.

This is a bad article with a silly premise. But it’s also worth noting that fascism doesn’t play by rules. I don’t think he will, but if Trump began having ICE arrest democratic politicians on confabulated charges, who or what would actually stop him?

My hot take is that if the op/ed page has to both sides even the shittiest of policy, the op/ed page shouldn’t exist.

Jill Filipovic@jillfilipovic.bsky.social

The job of an op/ed page is not to only publish the "right" opinions. If a topic, policy, or decision is in the news / under discussion at the highest levels, the op/ed page at a national newspaper should be publishing pieces that make the case for that policy or decision. Even if the policy is bad!

Saying that hating democrats because you think they are corporate shills or don’t adequately oppose Republicans and hating democrats for being socialists who hate America because they passed ACA is “essentially the same terms” is certainly an interesting theory.

Vituperative Erb@vituperativeerb.bsky.social

It’s frequently notable to me that millennial “leftists” whose suburban parents would have been listening to that stuff driving them to school talk about the Democratic Party in essentially the same terms Rush Limbaugh did

I’m a results guy, so if this works then I‘ll take it. But Im not sure we should really be assuming people who need to be sold on “the secret police are so bad they can’t be reformed” are really on our side.

Micah@rincewind.run

I’d love to get every single Democrat on board with “abolish ICE and dismantle DHS” but you’re going to need some votes from folks who don’t want to embrace that particular rhetoric and good news “there’s just too much corruption we’ve got to dismantle it to solve the problem” is sitting right there

This is honestly the bare minimum of what sort energy public figures against this new wave of fascism need to be bringing.

Will Stancil accusing people of not knowing basic terms or reading to learn is pretty funny considering how badly he gets owned when he tries to debate communists and doesn’t know what any of the words they use mean cause he categorically refuses to learn.

adonis (and cait)@cait.bsky.social

this man thinks i have far, far more power than i do and it's becoming weird atp

Reporting this like it represents a real gesture towards good faith debate is ghoulish. The issue he wanted to debate was gonna be some race science bullshit. I have no interest in dancing on his grave, but to sanctify this man as some paragon of freedom is fucking crazy.

This has to be the dumbest motherfucker in the world. A generationally terrible post.

Governor Gavin Newsom@governor.ca.gov

The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.

It's so funny that we have this game that is largely about beating the shit out of each other and then we have a bunch of random things that are punished with expulsions. Like, I get why you can't spit on someone, but kicking a guy out of the murder ball game for it seems a little silly.

CJ Fogler@cjzero.bsky.social

How dumb can you be? Spitting on another player directly in front of the official before the game even starts??? Jalen Carter WTF

The performative cruelty of Garcias deportation is what gets to me. They admitted he was deported by accident, but won’t undo it or let it go. They want to turn this country into an ethno-state and they are punishing and cracking down on anyone who resists that, even passively.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

Breaking: Kilmar Abrego García has just been detained by ICE after arriving at the agency's Baltimore field office as part of a required check-in, according to his attorney. "The only reason to take him into detention was to punish him."

My hot take about ASOIF is that fans anxiety about it not getting finished is an indirect consequence of Disney spending the past century trying to murder the public domain and in the process warping our ideas about the relationship between artists, art, and fans.

My hot take is that 69% is doing great on something like this. Only 76% percent of people are sure that the earth is globe. There are simply too many stupid people for your numbers on these to get much higher than that.

Chat, is it good when my explanation about writing the story from last week has to include a paragraph about the historical importance of journalism?

Phil Lewis@phillewis.bsky.social

Patrick Healy, NYT assistant managing editor for Standards and Trust, wrote a thread on how the Zohran Mamdani/Columbia story came together:

Why are they in camo? Because in their heart of hearts, even while being the pointy end of the next holocaust, these nerds are still LARPing.

Jacob Soboroff@jacobsoboroff.bsky.social

I obtained this from a community member minutes after arriving on scene following a raid at the Cypress Park Home Depot this morning. they detained day laborers.

I'm not queer or Palestinian, so I can't know for sure, but I don't think that "be straight or die" and "Catch this airstrike, bro" would feel the same to me. I think I'd feel like one of those is preferable to the other.

Morgan Wallen is the ur-pop country star. He makes awful, boring, and often insipid music. His albums are bloated beyond belief and he appears to be a robot that days y’all-isms. He is profoundly boring. But he’s hot and has some mild white guy swag so he will be huge for the next 40 years.

The coolest part of capitalism is that you can just make everyone’s lives so financially tenuous that people are ready to riot over the price of eggs, meanwhile the gov trying to deport green card holders and that just inspires posts.

Putting down the pen and looking down at my 20 step plan to save the democrats and all the steps just say “become republicans”
