Canada and Ecuador are expected to sign a Free Trade Agreement in the coming days—but Ecuadorians say they were shut out of the process. The deal puts investor protections ahead of democracy, human rights, and the environment. 🧵
For background on why people say NO: bit.ly/4yzlN6e
We need a different kind of trade.
Trade that puts people before profits. That upholds Indigenous rights, protects human rights and the environment, and supports a just energy transition that benefits workers and communities—not corporations.
That's the trade we're fighting for. 🧵

The #EcuadorCanada Free Trade Agreement, signed today, grants sweeping and undemocratic protections to Canadian investors while deepening Ecuador’s human rights crisis.
I fought the parts of this agreement that go against the interests, the human rights and the clear will of the Ecuadorean people, bringing it to the International Trade Committee for study, meeting with the Ecuadorean ambassador and with Ecuadorean indigenous reps. Canada should be ashamed.
