Saw a tech YouTuber do an ad for Bitwarden, then go on to show themselves using Proton Pass in a shot about a minute later. Now if that ain't art...

We have a cat who hangs around our house and meows through the night. Not sure if a stray or outdoor cat. I'm pretty sure he's terrorising us and our cats, but my wife and I have named him Sunny and are trying to convince ourselves not to adopt him. Cats are too cute for terror, sorry.

I think it's possible that AI companies use the risk of their models to drum up hype and gain regulatory capture, and that AI could be genuinely dangerous. I don't see a reason why both of those can't be true, and I hope we don't regret all the discourse claiming they're mutually exclusive.

My two weeks off are done, and due to our need to save daylight during the time of year it's at its most plentiful, my first day back will finish at 8pm.

I've had this idea for a story in my head for like a decade now. I'm going to write it. I spent much of today brainstorming a name. I keep getting stuck on that detail, and I need something that feels okay. The name I have for now, which might change, is The Problem with Death. #writing

I saw Verity with my wife today. I enjoyed it. It was fun. But my main takeaway is, I wish I'd actually followed my dream of being a writer when I was younger. I'm 39. I guess it's not too late to turn one of those ideas into a reality, yeah? #writing

My economic politics are pretty simple. If you need a thing to live a healthy life, it shouldn't be subject to raw market forces. A person shouldn't with about affording food, shelter, or healthcare. People shouldn't worry that losing their job will result in their untimely death.

It's frankly disgusting to see rent decreases discussed as a loss of earlier gains. Housing shouldn't be an investment. It being more affordable should be seen as a good thing. This incentive structure is fucking evil.

My wife has a maths quiz on Thursday. So tomorrow, we're gonna take the car to get new tyres, then have a date where we eat sushi and do maths problems. Younger me would be so fucking pumped at how our life turned out.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" said the president of the Stone Throwers Club, stone in hand, actively aiming it at a nearby homeless person. #onenation #auspol

I'll never understand the defense that users opt in to tracking for advertising purposes. No one is knowingly opting into that. No end user gives a fuck about the ads they get. No one wants them personalised. Who the fuck is buying this?

My cousin’s shirt took me a second. He said “it’s great because anyone who would be offended by it couldn’t understand it anyway.”

My wife and I have been talking about starting a family for a while. Our plans fell apart a few months ago, when our donor revealed himself to be...unsuitable. We had a chat tonight about our next steps. So, we're going to start our journey. I might yet be a mum 🥲

I've worked in a data centre. There giant buildings that have maybe a couple dozen people working in them at a time. Once built, there are almost no jobs to be had, and those jobs won't be filled by the same people who built them. This is a lie. The profits aren't for the community around them.

Make no mistake—this is Mike Rogers' position on data centers. He's got up to $2.6 million invested in companies cashing in on the data center boom, all while Michiganders watch their utility bills soar.

My wife and I helped an older gentleman who was taking a table from the side of the road. And I just really like when older people take the time to tell you about this person they know who also got gay married. The world progresses slowly, unevenly, often in the wrong direction, but there it is.

My fitbit is upset about my sleep quality. I only got 1h 57m, my sleep score is low. At 11:27. That was a nap, my friend. That was a two hour nap in the middle of the day. I feel fantastic.

I feel really bad for CSS people. "Look at this cool effect I achieved using just CSS, and it wasn't even that hard to set up!" I'm so sorry. Your bar was in the stratosphere, and now you're looking at one at the top of Mount Everest and marveling at the fact it technically can be done on foot.

We were told we have to use AI because it will make us faster. So I started using BMAD. The current discussion is why it's making us so much slower. I like this trajectory.

Vaccine conspiracies are easy to spread in part because of how effective vaccines are. People don't take the threat of measles seriously if it's never been a threat in their lifetime. It's easy to think it's not a big deal if it's never been a big deal for you. We have vaccines to thank for that.

We've got this face wash, and on the back, it starts out with a bold "developed with dermatologist". Which seems to me kind of like putting a sticker on a banana proclaiming it began friendly. Like, yeah, I think developed with dermatologists is kind of expected. By dermatologists, even.

I finally deployed a feature that's been in planning hell for ten months. It immediately broke. I got it fixed in less than twenty minutes, including an internet outage. I'm either gonna sleep well tonight or not at all.

Ugh, technology these days is so bad. My browser just froze trying to open! Sure, I'm asking it to open 78 tabs I've been to lazy to clean up for the past eight months, but come on.

Do I have to explain to my coworkers that "it shouldn't fail" isn't a good approach to fault tolerance? It's a durable function, it shouldn't fail. But it did. It did fail. Did we never think to handle that?

I keep thinking about how it used to be enough to advertise on TV and radio. Your only targeting was what kind of people are tuned in. It worked fine for ages. We didn't need to track viewers across channels, or correlate with their bathroom habits, we just kind of blasted ads out and it worked.
