So happy to see NYC lead on this! AI has no place in our schools. Kids need to learn to use their own brains to solve problems & read & write & play. I hope they extend the ban to high school next. I am all for HUMAN schools!

Next time your local or state legislature parrots some lobbyists talking points trying to tell you data centers will "increase our tax revenue," ask them about this NINETY-ONE PERCENT LOSS in tax revenue in Georgia & elsewhere, and whether & How they can guarantee the same thing won't happen to you.

Ronan Farrow@ronanfarrow.bsky.social

Georgia audited its own data center tax breaks and found that the state gave up $474 million in sales taxes in one year—and got back just $41 million from the industry. At least 38 states have deals like this. #AI #News #US

Heartened to see that my university is ending its contract with Turnitin before the next academic year, because Turnitin is going to use student submissions to train AI models. Institutions can and should resist this stuff!

Thank you to @readalittlepoem.bsky.social for including this here anticapitalist aubade, from Might Could & first published in the much-missed Gettysburg Review <3

Happy solstice! Here is the kind of luck I have—Emily Hancock of @stbrigidpress.bsky.social has made my poem “One Lightning Bug,” from Might Could, into a tiny letterpress-printed pamphlet. Emily showed me that the cover does this!

Just such a delight to talk with Amanda Hawkins for @therumpus.net. Thank y'all! 💚✨
