We have a 4 year PhD position available @ebdonana.bsky.social in our project “Connecting key wetland sites through waterbirds: implications for plant populations”. We seek candidates with interest in plant ecology, waterbirds and/or movement ecology. Details attached @sibecol.bsky.social

15/17 To our surprise, they hardly cared. In 179 out of 180 trials, they remained on the mat. Some even allowed themselves to be pulled along calmly while “surfing” on it.

8/17 But this paradigm had never been adapted to birds. This is particularly interesting because evidence for mirror self-recognition in birds remains scarce and, in some cases, controversial. Fortunately, at the Goffin Lab we have some excellent candidates.

For our hike up to Dunkel Stein 🪨, the campers had the “tool trail” to solve (20 pictures of tools - had to guess which species used which and for what 🛠️) Extra points for each origami crane they found on the path!🏅 Kudos to @zewaldj.bsky.social who made it and got up super early to set it up!🙏😮‍💨

Big thanks to the organizers and to all the participants for this couple of days visiting the Goffin lab! 🤩 It was great to meet new people, and the famous Goffin's cockatoos. We had a wonderful demonstration of the parrots' wit, and mischief. 🦜
