Our new paper also quantifies how gulls use WWTPs and landfills in Morocco, making them likely vectors of antibiotic resistant bacteria #AMR #onehealth @hofleursula.bsky.social

New paper with @drandygreen.bsky.social in New Phytologist! We argue that classical seed-dispersal syndromes are subjective proxies—not mechanisms—and can obscure how plants move. A clearer, mechanism-based framework is needed to understand dispersal and its evolution. doi.org/10.1111/nph....

Just out: MICROPLASTIC INGESTION AND DIET ANALYSIS IN THREE MIGRATORY SHOREBIRDS AT BAHÍA LOMAS, CHILE. Shorebirds that eat more biofilm ingest more MPs @setac.bsky.social @manmetuni.bsky.social @globalflyway.bsky.social @waderstudy.bsky.social @ebdonana.bsky.social doi.org/10.1016/j.en...

Most zoochory interactions involve plants that have an abiotic syndrome. The proportion of endozoochory interactions involving fleshy-fruited plants is only 33%, not much higher than for “unspecialized” plants (28%). Only 37% of seed dispersal interactions by ants have a “myrmecochory syndrome”.

So pleased to be a part of this paper providing an important review of zoochory (seed dispersal by animals) in Europe. Which animals disperse which plants, and what do we need to know in future.... @ebdonana.bsky.social

Plants also think "better alone than in bad company." In our new GBE paper (part of my thesis), we show how reproductive assurance through selfing combined with waterbird dispersal shaped the invasion history and genomics of Cotula coronopifolia 🌱🦆🧪 DOI: doi.org/10.1093/gbe/... #PopGen

Our PhD student Julian explains the key message from his latest paper

And it turns out those black specks in that photo are bryozoan statoblasts (Plumatella). So what is that telling us about bryozoan dispersal?
