The sheer irony that the slop machine couldn't give them what they wanted so they edited a stock image is incredible. But sure, tell us how it's the future of making games again...

OrangeRight@orangeright.bsky.social

It’s 100% intentional, they edited an existing stock photo to add the finger

And before you say "Well that's just a 26 year old bad take!" - I could agree with you if his behaviour hadn't been incredibly consistent. This is just him. This is how he is. Always has been.

Wait, when's the last time ol' Tim Sweeney made a game? Like, if he's on his big AI push these days I have to believe it's because he's forgotten how. He's lost the joy of creation, so he's abdicated it to a machine. Soulless, brain-worm addled behaviour, that.

New: I pulled the Character ai bankruptcy documents. They show: - They were spending $14 million/month on compute alone at a time their revenue was around ~$1 million/month - Currently losing $9 million a month - They admitted they enshittified & that it didnt work www.404media.co/character-ai...

The developer behind Teach My Little Sister How to Drive, a driving generative AI-powered instruction sim, has been spending $1000 a day to keep the demo running, and now, they've had to take out a bank loan to keep up. https://bit.ly/4rWqe8g

So I've, unfortunately, looked at this a few more times and I'm increasingly convinced it's been faked. The textures and meshes used in the corridor change repeatedly throughout entirely without mention. Also the "final" product shown in the video looks almost nothing like the thumbnail they show.

Unity once again showing that they know absolutely nothing about the actual craft of game development here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkcK...

My most charitable take, that is in no way charitable, is that Unity wants this so they can be the new AI-powered Roblox. Just a storefront of AI generated garbage that they can point to so they can keep grifting investors.

Once again, no one needs whatever this is trying to be. It's nonsensical trend chasing that they're shoehorning into their engine because they've so thoroughly shot themselves in the foot over the last decade.

I used Unity for ten years. I even shipped a PC/Console game in the engine. I won't touch it anymore. Not after Riccitiello. Not after bolting random bits they bought into the engine and then not maintaining them. Not after the runtime fee.

Besides the fact that they're loudly espousing design-by-committee where people can just throw the worst possible ideas into the game directly, they also pivot away from the AI stuff like halfway through the video? At that point they're just using Unity for level design...

It's true. I apologized to a frying pan yesterday when I put it away and it clanked into another, but Trump can eat a bag of syphilitic dicks.

Well after largely enjoying the gameplay of the Belmont's Curse demo, despite the unfortunately tropey story, the first boss fight was unnecessarily brutal and I'm tapping out. Too bad, that.
