“I have never seen a rally with this much excitement and this kind of crowd, ever.” Congressman Shomari Figures (D-AL) drew 400-500 people in a county that Trump won by 48 points. Dothan locals said the Supreme Court’s gutting of the VRA is motivating democrats to get out to the polls.

State legislative races should be getting a lot more attention Dems could flip 500 seats, pick up new majorities in 7 states & break up GOP majorities in 6 states 2026 could be 2010 in reverse

In 2026, the Supreme Court essentially gutted the Voting Rights Act, giving Republican-controlled legislatures a green light to redraw congressional districts ahead of the midterms. This week on Reveal, come with us to Louisiana to hear what this means for the state and the rest of the South.

In 1868 Louisiana elected first Black congressman. He was never seated In 1875 Louisiana elected second Black congressman. He served just one term It took 114 years for Louisiana to elect another Black member of Congress And now Roberts Court wants to wipe out Black representation across South

Here's some history the US Supreme Court doesn't want you to think about. In April 2026, SCOTUS effectively ended the Voting Rights Act. The decision has startling parallels with Plessy v. Ferguson, the decision that established “separate but equal" and cemented Jim Crow.

Trump says voter fraud is rampant. The evidence says otherwise. On this week's More To The Story, Mother Jones' @ariberman.bsky.social joins us to discuss what conservative activists who say election fraud is rampant are really trying to achieve. 🎧 Listen: apple.co/4j58dlP

Very important - today 10/5 is the last day to register to vote if you live in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas

🚨🚨Attention - if you live in Alaska, Rhode Island or South Carolina today 10/4 is the last day to register to vote

🚨Really important voter registration deadlines coming up: 10/4 - Alaska, Rhode Island & South Carolina 10/5 - Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas Make sure you're registered & spread the word

DHS SAVE database has long and documented history of producing false positives of non-citizens voting, leading to sensational headlines of alleged voter fraud that turn out to be untrue on closer inspection. In St. Louis County, MO, for example at least 81% of the names flagged were incorrect

Thanks to SCOTUS GOP-appointed majority (same ones who attended Trump's state dinner last night), Trump admin will use faulty & inaccurate data to wrongly label eligible voters non-citizens & pressure states to remove them from rolls. Sets a chilling precedent www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

motherjones.comSupreme Court allows Trump to use flawed database to vet voter citizenshipWhile the impact on the midterms might be minimal, Justice Jackson warns some eligible voters could be disenfranchised.

This means eligible voters will be wrongly labeled non-citizens due to faulty and unreliable data and be purged from the rolls

BREAKING: SCOTUS allows DHS to use its Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database with Social Security info, staying a district court order that had vacated the new policy. Justice Jackson dissents for the three Dem appointees. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

If Trump's order for DHS to help manage voter rolls goes into effect this November, "it's going to be inaccurate, it's going to be unconstitutional, and a lot of legitimate American voters are going to be wrongly labeled as non-citizens and unable to vote," warns @ariberman.bsky.social

SCOTUS reinstated Texas gerrymander 15 weeks before primary because they claimed it was too close to election to block it but now says it's too soon for states to challenge Trump EO restricting mail voting even though midterms 70 days away. Justice Jackson rightly calls it "Kafkaesque nightmare"

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Dem. appointees, #SCOTUS has *granted* the Trump administration’s request to freeze a district court injunction that had blocked the mail-in ballots executive order. But Trump’s EO remains blocked by a different injunction in a different case—at least for now:

61 years ago LBJ signed Voting Rights Act. He called it "a triumph for freedom as huge as any victory that has ever been won on any battlefield." But now the Supreme Court has effectively killed it after John Roberts spent 40 years working to destroy the country’s most important civil rights law

Trump's speech was a total dud but he's still going to use it as pretext to interfere in midterms. In particular the discredited allegations of Chinese interference are intended to lay groundwork for fake national emergency. That's the real threat www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

motherjones.comTrump’s primetime speech was a dud. He could still use it to interfere in the midterms. The allegations of foreign interference by China are intended to create a fake national emergency.

Trump claimed in speech DHS found 278,000 noncitizens registered to vote. Turns out that number was 10,716 based on report they just released. Even that # likely wildly inflated due to false positives & inaccuracies in SAVE database

All the ways Trump has gutted efforts to stop foreign election interference: -laid off a third of CISA employees -disbanded FBI task charged with combatting foreign election interference -eliminated DHS teams combatting foreign disinformation -fired all the EAC commissioners

Trump claims 278,000 non-citizens on voter rolls. That’s laughable. Utah recently audited 2 million people on voter rolls and found just 27 noncitizens registered, amounting to .00135% of registered voters

National Intelligence Council 2021 report directly contradicts Trump's lies about alleged Chinese interference: “We assess that China did not deploy interference efforts and considered but did not deploy influence efforts intended to change the outcome of the US presidential election"

A federal judge in Atlanta has quashed a DOJ subpoena seeking the names and personal info of Fulton County's 2020 election workers. “Georgia is just a microcosm of what they're planning to do to interfere in the midterms,” says @ariberman.bsky.social, voting rights correspondent for Mother Jones.

"Every major study has shown that mail-in voting is safe and secure, but the fact that four justices signed on to Trump’s crusade to get rid of mail-in ballots is highly disturbing and could embolden the president to attempt to take even more drastic steps to make it harder to vote"

Ari Berman@ariberman.bsky.social

Good news that SCOTUS preserved mail ballot grace periods but very disturbing that 4 justices led by Alito amplified Trump's conspiracies about mail voting, including debunked claims of "voter fraud" www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Good day to rewatch this

You need to know about the SAVE Act, which recently passed in the House. So here's a crash course from reporter Ari Berman on how the sweeping voter restriction bill could disenfranchise millions of Americans

Politicians who brazenly push to disenfranchise Black voters need to pay a political price everywhere they try it

Stephen Wolf@stephenwolf.bsky.social

Big news: Georgia Republicans have dropped their plans to pass new gerrymanders targeting Black Democrats today over fears of energizing Dem turnout this fall. They planned to pass new maps for 2028 in case they lose the 2026 governor’s race. They could still do it in the lame-duck period though

WTF is this NYT headline? What the Alabama + Callais decisions really signal is that Roberts Court will make up whatever the hell rule it wants to maximally help the GOP & prevent Black voters from having any representation

Ari Berman reposted

Last night, the Roberts Court once again handed Republicans another shocking gerrymandering win in Alabama. For the second time in three weeks, they green-lit an Alabama congressional map that a lower court has repeatedly found intentionally discrim inates against Black voters.

Roberts Court now engaged in blatant electoral warfare, doing everything it can to give Republicans as many seats as possible in midterms & completely erase Reconstruction amendments. If Dems don’t reform court when back in power there will be no democracy left to protect

Ari Berman@ariberman.bsky.social

Roberts Court wants to create world where Dems have no legitimate chance to ever take control of Congress, there are no Black members of Congress from the South & no voting rights violations can ever be proven. Their end goal is permanent white GOP minority rule www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
