You know, I keep saying "I think Silicon Valley people think AI is good at everything because it's good at code and they think code is the most intellectually challenging task in existence", and then they just go ahead and skeet it out

conputer dipshit@davidcrespo.bsky.social

I am not confused about that: I believe it avowedly, and I think what is happening in every domain of intellectual endeavor suggests that's the right idea, and it will be increasingly clear

rippp lovcen, yutaka take continues to be the protagonist of jp horse jockeys

celebrating the holidays, but only in accordance to the umamusume global calendar

im excited for the wave of documentaries clearly inspired by you can see everything but clearly dont get it every documentary will just be extreme closeups of an uninteresting person and they will either replace the story outright or accompany the basic documentary narrative formula we already know

im coming to the conclusion that ycse is a perfect portrait of silicon valley. even if we take holmes at her word, the picture she paints of herself is not one of innocence but of banal evil. theranos, if it "worked", would simply be the same rent-seeking middleman silicon valley calls "disruption"

i honestly feel like i can't talk much about you can see everything without in some way hurting the experience for someone else. what i can say is that it left me in awe for the next hour after the film. i still don't really know how to feel about the story presented. i love this specific feeling.

i think a lot about a conversation a friend told me he had with a startup founder at his school, who openly claimed that when investors asked about total addressable market, he just gave a random big number. lying and recklessness is the norm there. i now think about the push for llms in healthcare.

it's possible, though wildly unlikely, that she truly believes she did nothing wrong. why should she? *she's just doing what everyone else is* and that's a terrifying thought.

i've recently heard that some ai bros want to make an smw central alternative because we don't allow gen ai content on the site. here's my direct response to those people. "who owns rom hacking?" and other questions ai poisons us with shoujo.gay/who-owns-rom...

The indomitable spirit of the umamusume fan is so beautiful to see. Oshidori all over my feeds from Japanese fans stuck in LA who are now instead taking their acrylics to theme parks and the big tourist spots

i had the mistaken expectations for digger that it'd be a mind-bendy movie, which hampered my experience somewhat. i did like it (esp its direction) ycse was insane tho. the impossibility of understanding another compounded on by power structures, almost haunted by the lack of a certain presence.

have tickets to see both digger and you can see everything today i just might go insane

it also does something incredibly difficult, both to do and watch, which is force you to sympathize with someone (probably) evil. there are so many brutal moments that make you think "oh my god how could we let this happen, even to someone like this?" (patriarchy. the answer is patriarchy.)

this comparison is deeply imperfect and misses so many important themes of ycse, but the closest thing my animanga-addled brain can think of to ycse, partially in terms of themes, but mostly in terms of what it feels like to watch is goodbye eri. no i wont elaborate on that (for now).

nathan fielder's work definitely has running themes of the impossibility of truly knowing another person, as well as the impossibility of depicting "reality" in media and art. holmes, and the story of everything around her, ends up being a perfect incarnation of these ideas

perception, and therefore expression, are always colored. a single word can change the meaning of everything. and yet stories, *especially* this one, can only be told through layers of proxy. ycse forces you to live with the discomfort of hearing someone else's voice in place of your own

and yet there were so many things about it i really liked. the sets were gorgeous, and the cinematography was never uninteresting. the performances were (affectionately) corny and over-the-top. the soundtrack was weird and incredible

i think digger's biggest issue for me is that, by pointing out the futility of art's catharsis, it fails to be cathartic in the ways i believe it wants to be. also, the story structure, while clever, was used in pretty predicable ways, and almost felt like it was there to explain the movie to you

today i'll learn wtf is this movie, as well as wtf is this other movie

bsky was "supposed" to be designed to make it easy to escape the clutches of bluesky pbc the fact that we're still so beholden to their ass-backwards decisionmaking is an utter failure on bluesky's part the technical possibily of moving is not a solution to the social problems baked into the site

asebi@asebi.moe

bluesky is a decentralized social network with the resilience and power dynamics of a centralized one
