going to make one broad and one specific point about this passage broad point: people who are encouraging a movement to wipe out a vulnerable minority are not the same as people who oppose it. and "encouraging" is an understatement of what the anti-trans philosophers have done

I tracked the content of Rowling’s tweets for five months, posting occasional updates until she blocked me. bsky.app/profile/bill...

There's no pretense left. J. K. Rowling made her hate for trans women clear in a slur-filled screed slurring them a dozen times and describing them as deceitful and dangerous. So writes @evanurquhart.bsky.social this morning on Assigned Media. *WARNING: Article quotes Rowling's hateful language.*

But that bigot wont see a penny from me. She won't even get a notification that we streamed the movies we already own. My money will not continue to pay for her hate, against people whose life stories inspire me everyday. Rot in piss Rowling. May your grave never be dry.

I will die mad at JK Rowling. I loved these books. They're how I fell in love with reading. My dad would get the audio books on cassette from the library for road trips. My wife and I would listen on roadtrips later too. We'd watch the movies on holidays. I looked forward to reading with my kids.

Evan here: What makes it a slur to me is that you really can't understand it as anything other than a claim of dishonesty. "These people say they're x but they are y" is a long way of saying "these people are all liars." A term with no meaning other than disparagement is a slur.

"When she calls trans women men, over and over and over again, she’s not describing what she understands to be reality or defending women or making a point about the definitions of words, she’s seeking to create a picture of a monstrous person who should be feared and shunned."

The Trump administration has worked to portray itself as protecting women and girls through their anti-trans policies. Meanwhile, they've worked tirelessly to undermine protections against sexual assault. Wither Title IX, in this exceptional new reported story by @billiejsweeney.bsky.social.

A story of the trans community's resilience and expanding cultural relevance, even as our lives are threatened by the fascist political movement that made us enemy #1. Don't miss this, from @c-cauterucci.bsky.social, on @slate.com slate.com/life/2026/10...

The "protection" narrative promoted by Trump and far-right groups like Heritage is a dangerous fallacy. Trump's DOE has abandoned sexual assault investigations under Title IX. It has set rules that effectively put the survivors of rape on trial and that favor the men accused of victimizing them.

She and her husband didn't even blink at sexual assault in their wrestling corporation.

Everyone with a shred of objectivity already knows this to be obviously true, but it's still good to have data supporting the fact that transphobes are just bog-standard misogynist bigots, and the attempts to frame transphobia as some kind of feminist virtue are insultingly transparent.

Are trans sports bans about protecting women's sports? Survey says: "Among the least sexist respondents, 28% supported banning transgender people from sports matching their gender identity; among the most sexist, 79% did." The Conversation | 10/20/2026 theconversation.com/are-transgen...

The anti-trans group Moms For Liberty has bullied yet another school into abandoning trans kids. @alyssaur.bsky.social brings you the story here in this week's TWIBS.

Have you seen my interview with Evan Urquhart? Evan founded Assigned Media, and I asked him what it's like to run one of the most trusted and most beloved trans news sites. Don't miss it! CC @evanurquhart.bsky.social @assignedmedia.org

The reboot of our least favorite mean-spirited bigotry-laced fantasy series is fast approaching. For many of us, the original was a beloved part of our childhood. @alyssaur.bsky.social writes about the series, her connection to it, and how, in spite of that, she was able to drop it.

Not my country but apparently in the United States a Wyoming registered LLC is now sending out physical mailers to Texan households falsely claiming to be sending material from a Texas based transgender support group. Someone is up to something folks. Please be safe. www.kxan.com/news/texas-p...

Husband got the text last week. Just trashed the mailer yesterday evening. He was like, "This seems supportive!" I was like "It's probably a psyop." Hate being right.

We got one at home yesterday- it is deliberately meant to terrify a subset of parents, with significant sections on how to emancipate yourself from your non-affirming parents and transition in secret. Local Facebook groups I'm in (DFW area) are swamped with folks alarmed about the false flag aspect

As @barbmcquade.bsky.social posted earlier: "The dirty money pays for more than just ads."

A trio of new polls could spell disaster for the GOP in the 2026 midterms over their anti-trans ad obsession. Could we be looking at a wave election for democrats fueled, not suppressed, by Republican anti-trans ads? We examine the polls in our latest piece. Subscribe to support our journalism.

One of the disturbing revelations of the TERF conference in MA that @assignedmedia.org recently reported on was how SWERFs in feminist orgs provided legitimacy and entryways for TERFs, with their worldviews ultimately overlapping. SWERFs are a potent reactionary force disrupting feminism

This. “In the 30-second ad called “Republicans In Your Bathroom,” a girl walks into a bathroom stall, screaming when she realizes a GOP congressman is waiting in the stall for her.”

Thanks to everyone who tagged me after the Assigned Media feed became the main character after an AI generated meme was posted by a contributor who generally posts news. I removed it as soon as I saw, but the damage while it was up can't simply be undone.

Evan here: Its 330am, I saw the meme less than an hour ago, and I'm travelling all day tomorrow due to a family medical thing. It's going to be difficult to communicate as much as I'd like, so I am reposting this thread in the meantime bc the timeline and assessment here is correct.

The NHS promises "privacy, dignity and safety" for all its patients in new guidance that directs hospitals not to respect trans people's identities. Also, somebody impersonating a trans organization in Texas sent fraudulent texts to Republicans. And, nobody trusts Republicans on trans issues.

@rikiwilchins.bsky.social 2026 Oct Humorist Larry David, In a wide-ranging attempt at spoofing the DSA, can't resist punching-down at trans people, including a supposed policy that would allow people who identify as animals to "relieve themselves" wherever they want. Beyond disgusting.
