Labor organizer and practicing anarchist. Given my various identities I likely meet most of the NSPM-7βs guidelines to be a suspect person, and you probably do too: congratulations on being a criminal with me.

Hello BlueSky! I occasionally write stuff, like this article. I'm finally giving in and giving social media another honest go.
I focus mostly on commentary and analysis around US politics, queer issues, and trying to reframe things with a liberatory focus and/or exploring power dynamics.
When anarchism isn't being villified as evil it's being dismissed with an eyeroll by people who think they know better. But in Minneapolis, we're seeing the power of this maligned philosophy.

I felt I really needed to write about Rowling's essay, not because it's new, but because it's so poisonous and ugly that it felt like sanitizing her not to acknowledge it on my trans news site.
There's no pretense left. J. K. Rowling made her hate for trans women clear in a slur-filled screed slurring them a dozen times and describing them as deceitful and dangerous.
So writes @evanurquhart.bsky.social this morning on Assigned Media.
*WARNING: Article quotes Rowling's hateful language.*
I'm not like thrilled that it's becoming a daily occurrence that I get flashbanged by some US politician using a slur about people like me, or that the nominal opposition party is running candidates that share policies with them
Something I spoke about before was how transphobia is often an expression of misogyny, it gives people who hate women an outlet and sets trans women up as a class of women it's socially okay to be misogynistic towards, while also providing an ideological justification for that misogyny.
A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women.

Nuclear just doesn't have a future, and big oil would really like to keep nuclear in the discussion because it's slow to build and gives them more runway. Whatever arguments there might have been for nuclear three decades ago, the era is over.
Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth.
Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why.

If I talked to the 10 most politically engaged Americans I know I would need to fill in probably 7 or 8 of them on basically everything about Brazil's election, I don't think Americans are overly focused on what happens in other countries.
"Americans are too focused on stuff happening abroad!" Ok so like before we even have that argument, is that true or are you in social circles where people care a lot about that stuff?
I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.
I donβt think this is exactly whatβs going on, or all thatβs going on. Itβs not that Republicans are constructing an elaborate psychological defense against evidence that Trump is a rapist. Itβs that they like that heβs a rapist, and they like rape: it enacts the power of the strong over the weak.
The vile attacks on Amy Acton need to be seen in the context of a party that *needs* people to believe women fabricating sexual assaults is common as rainwater. Because itβs pretty much the only way to evade the conclusion that the president is a rapist.
Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States.
"In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct."

I've said it before but the major disconnect between trans people and our oppressors is that we treat healthcare as an issue of autonomy, whereas the cis medical authorities treat it at best as a sort of palliative care for an incurable "disease".
NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epsteinβs sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report.
Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.
I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.
There is a deep problem in US politics that the Democratic right has oppositional defiant disorder towards the activists that make their politics possible.
Over the past several years Brazilians have organized everything from physical shows of force and road occupations to the incredibly sophisticated algorithm manipulation that just played a role in their election victory last night. Old tactics and new, confrontation and evasion, like tidal flow.
Nothing is ever final, and Brazil has a fraught few years ahead with the electoral gains the far right made in legislature. But it's incredibly inspiring and should be a lesson to Americans that we are not exceptional in our struggle, we must learn from our fellows around the world.
If explaining a candidate's position accurately hurts that candidate that's not a problem with the person doing the explaining.
If embracing anti-trans bigotry is good, smart politics, then trans people pointing it out isn't going to hurt those politicians.
What are you talking about? I truly dont understand your point.
My point:
Magats picked a wedge issue, trans athletes, and split the Dem party with it. Now we have trolls using that wedge to cut down Dems so that magats retain power. The OP perfectly represents that in action.
Iβm not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Donβt share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
Many Americans reacting to this with "I hope this doesn't happen to us in November" and like, no you dumb fucks he's saying this shit because he wants to give YOUR GOVERNMENT cover to interfere further.
It is in a lot of ways just an abdication of responsibility, of taking a role in forming the political environment. It's the fundamental problem of shallow popularism; you assume you're just a powerless actor reacting to the "preferences" of the "median voter", which is a loser's way of thinking.
And so I have to ask, where would we be in some parallel world where the socialism and liberty party, or the worker's party, had this particular brain worm and worried about the ~*~optics~*~ of campaigning with her, of letting her be the incredibly effective leader that she is?
as a trans activist from Kansas, some of the most vehement pro-trans activists in the state are genuinely Christian pastors. the Dems in the State Legislature have way more pro-trans takes than this. he's saying this after my trans activist friends have spent like a week @'ing him. he can do better

So Lula not only won, he basically doubled his margin of victory from 2022. I'm guessing he won thanks to voters who didn't love him, but were terrified to see Flavio given near-dictatorial power.
It's going to be a messy next chapter for Brazil, but at least it'll be a fight, not a curb-stomping.
Hi. I, a trans woman, am the Executive Producer of this show. I wrote the question. He called trans girls men. He has now said it in three different places in the past week.
For @ms.now I wrote about Josh Turek's proposal for trans health...
...only it was 10 months ago when the Trump administration proposed the same policy.
They later backed off the proposal.

So, I'm being dragged for saying the incremental change idea involves fighting Democrats who want to drag their feet on giving trans people back the rights we've lost over the past 6 years...
...by Democrats who favor an incremental change approach to restoring trans people's rights.
