Braided the elf boy braid for the first time since getting my splints…i am much slower and there is a learning curve, but it is shockingly less fiddly.

My orthotics keep my fingers in a more natural curve so I don’t have to be as conscious about keeping my fingers curved to reduce pain from hyperextension when I pick things up or manipulate them.

i do keep dropping it every few tries…BUT HEY I CAN FINALLY DO IT WITH JUST MY FINGERS

I did one of my OT exercises - flipping an object with just manipulating my fingers, no gravity or using my wrist - so much faster than I ever have before. Instead of my best time being about 25 seconds, I did it this time in about 15.

I think I’ve popped my fingers twice today (I am a chronic finger popper since they are always floating around in the ether)

I open a soda can without a spoon. (Should I be having a Dr Pepper with breakfast? Nooooo! But am I? Yeeeessss)

So all I’ve done is sob for the last 32 hours. There is so much deep, sincere trauma from how hard it was to get these. It’s genuinely the worst that when things finally calm down is when everything you have to process just coming OUT all at once 😭

I don’t need to hold my pinkies at the bottom of my phone to keep it stable

I held a pen the “right” way on my middle finger for the first time in my life. My writing callus is on my ring finger because my fingers weren’t stable enough to hold it any other way

Typing things is so nice. I can actually use my finger tips and I’m not just slapping buttons with my finger pads. So much less fatigue after a long time.

I’m not overcompensating the instability in my fingers with other fingers (ie I don’t need to support my index finger with my middle finger to move a thing)

AND we got my MRI for my shoulder scheduled today before I may/may not lose my insurance at the end of the month!!!! What a day

you really don’t realize how much harder you have to work to make sure your fingers operate as they typically should until a woman with a tray of marbles comes to absolutely humble you

One more for the afternoon crowd. Two of the last lines of dialogue I wrote on the last BioWare game I shipped.

My life is feeling very burnt toast. I was interviewing with the Maxis team, Twitch and SSDS all at the same time before accepting my role with SSDS. Maxis moved FAST, like start to finish in two weeks fast. I didn’t end up getting it and was devastated.

The Acquisition went through a week or two later - seeing that a sims project has also been canceled in all of this doesn’t surprise me. Everyone at Maxis is incredible inside and out, and I would have loved to be there. And also, I’m a bit grateful the universe guided me in a different direction.
