I think the average person has no idea how a video game is made and so it makes sense they would focus on wanting to save an IP and not the devs behind it. Being on an AAA team means there are a handful of chosen speakers at the top, and the average worker can’t speak out or risk losing their job.

As someone whose first shipped game as a writer was Mass Effect and is now using Yarn Spinner, knowing that the team was inspired by a game I was a tinny part of is pretty cool. Here's to more stories, wherever they come from.

On the loss of BioWare 💔

Submitted not one but TWO insurance claims that needed receipts uploaded and also used website to order a refill of the dog's meds. Basically adulting at a whole other level right now. ...okay I just remembered I still have to sign something my accountant asked for a week ago, BUT THE POINT STANDS

Me: I don't see any reason to use AI Slop peddlers: You know how you want to sell books but you hate writing? Me: No, I love writing. The only reason I care about selling books is so I can afford to write instead of getting a real job Slop peddlers: Oh. Well... You know how you hate your kids?

Banning trans kids from sports is fucked up. And you better believe there are terrible people and parents who see "Fairness in youth sports" as a much bigger battlefield that will include girls who are too tall, black kids who are too fast, etc etc

I played soccer as a kid, and my team regularly lost 0-9, and clearly my parents failed to do their duty and call the police to remove that kid on the other team who knew how to dribble.

Zack Zwiezen@zackzwiezen.com

This isn't hyperbole or a joke. Parents actually called the cops and got the black boy and his family removed and the league claimed they were trespassing because he was "putting on a show" and wasn't playing "fair."

I don’t do rune readings often enough to have a good patter, and sometimes the runes just drop real blunt truth bombs on people, and I gotta be like, “Uhhh, so this is… not usually a positive rune. Norse people didn’t get, like, HAPPY when a hailstorm destroyed their crops.”

Reminder: This is tonight!

Edmontonians! If you’re into Halloween but less into the bar scene, come to our Halloween choral show, rock a fun costume (or not), listen to a talented band, get some snacks and drinks, and help us raise money for the Edmonton Food Bank! Saturday Oct 24 - 7pm Caernarvon Hall

Being a video game writer has to be hell. >write asshole character called "Jimmy the Asshole" >be bombarded with complaints that Jimmy's an asshole >legions of tumblrites that inexplicably want to fuck him >republicans unironically admire him >800,000 downloads for BIG TITTY ANIME JIMMY on Nexus

One of the most insightful comments about game development came from a former boss. He said “Making a game is like starting a band. You can’t throw money at a new studio with random AAA veterans and expect it to crank out a hit.” 🧵

All hail the return of narrative-heavy games that can't be immediately replicated through crappy slop-coding! Sincerely, -Writer Looking Work Once Contract Ends

with sloppy (but convincing enough) AI vibeclones on the rise, developers now face a future in which a steady stream of pre-release videos, demos, and playtests—the only reliable way to promote and build community—could be their game’s undoing

My first BW staff badge, 2006. It was a huge privilege to be a small part of something that brought so many people together all around the world. The thriving relationships made through BioWare games are a comforting legacy today. Here’s to the good times. 🍻

Former BioWare Senior Writers Mary Kirby (Varric, Vivienne, Lucanis) and Sylvia Feketekuty (Liara, Josephine, Emmrich) and Sarah Hayward (Former BioWare Cinematic Director) have found a home at North Mist with many others in our network.

Very heavy news as our former studio, BioWare closes its doors today. It was a formative place for many. However, many former BioWare devs are scattered around the industry. Find them, support them. Like, follow, comment and help us prove there is still support for the types of games we make!

I had an incredible high school teacher whose words feel so relevant today. Paraphrasing (cuz it was years and years ago) If you want a strong indicator of the health of a society, look at how that society values its artists.

Don't do this to creative people. I've written my share of bad reviews; it's fine for them to exist. I don't share them w the people they're about. There are channels thru which creative people made aware of people/publications that don't like their work. They don't need you tagging them, *really*

Other than Q5 ("proof of citizenship to vote") and of course Q10 that got walloped, it looks like the end result will be: - a very weak mandate across the immigration Qs, despite the effort and slanted framing that went into boosting them - a clear rejection of most of the constitutional Qs #ableg

An update on projected results of the "other" 9 AB referendum Q's: Q6 flipped to No overnight, as expected. ** It still looks like all 4 "constitutional" questions will end up No ** The reason: most of the mail-in ballots are yet to be counted there. Those that have are 75% No.

Awful results in Alberta, where voters had the literacy to vote overwhelmingly against separation but not to toss out the 5 racist immigration red herrings, which now get weaponized by provinces, police, & the feds to crack down even harder. www.jurist.org/commentary/2...

Just got all my boys together to take on the wandering ronin who came to town. There’s like 15 of us and only one of him so pretty much the only thing that would give me any pause is if he was master of the devastating and lightning-fast iaidō style. But that’s not likely. Saw ANOTHER person say my indictment was the best thing to happen to my campaign. Let me be clear: It severely limited what I could say, where I could go, and what I could do. I had to worry about prison AND legal fees for myself AND my (amazing) field director. Political prosecutions aren’t fun.
