Do you think I could improve this format for reels/tiktok? I feel like itβs pretty satisfying right now but Iβd be good to get outside perspective, so what do you think?

I find myself in the insane position of not needing to work for the next ~18 months, so if you're an #indiedev and you need #programming help for cheap, send me a DM. I have endless time and I'd love to work with you! Please share so whoever needs this might see it! #gamedev#videogames

I'm hoping to start a new project in August, any non-programmers looking to collab on something? Your ideas or mine, I'm happy either way π
I have ~10 years SWE experience and have been making little games for most of that time. DM me!

So so happy with the impact animation I drew for the players laser cannon, I never thought I'd get to a point where I was actually proud of art I'd created but this whole project is shaping up to be something really fun. First time for everything I guess :D #playdate#pixelart#indiegames#gamedev

Once I've found a collision, I just need to push the player toward that centre line and voila; half-decent, non-AABB collision with no impact on performance. If you code it correctly.
I did not code it correctly.
Instead I applied the force regardless of whether a collision occurred π€¦ So what you actually get is a little push each frame towards that centre line. Its easy to fix, but I also kinda like the idea of having an autopilot power-up, so maybe you'll see a less terrible version somewhere down the line
A bit of background: Playdate has very basic collision detection which can't handle much other than AABB collisions. This means that there isn't a standard way of handling collision for the slopes which is a problem given that it won't be much of a game if you can fly straight through the obstacles.
To get around this, I defined a centre line and acceptable deviation per section (red lines in the video) and then all I had to do was calculate how far from this line the player is. If they're outside the acceptable deviation, they've hit a wall.
I've been working hard adding a space station interior zone to Cranky Aliens, here are some WIP screenshots. If you think they're cool, consider liking and sharing? It helps little devs out so much. Thanks!

Ive had an insanely productive couple of weeks and Im pretty proud to be able to share more screenshots from my upcoming playdate game Cranky Aliens - I hope you like them!
The finished game will have 3 stages, each with a unique player character and boss battle

I always forget that i'm supposed to actually share what I'm working on every one in a while... So here's a WIP from an upcoming @play.date title. I'll share more over the next few weeks with a hopeful release sometime before summer.

It also glosses over that those intermediate stages are crucial to the end product. By having an AI do that work you're outsourcing your creative vision to a Frankenstein's monster made of the stolen ideas of other artists, and by the same token feeding the monster with your own ideas.
I think the fundamental gap here is that non-creative people think that creative people make things for the end product, when in fact itβs the act of creation and not the end point that makes it worthwhile.
Wow I have been super not present for a few months now. People of Bluesky... what's going on? Tell me about what you're working on, or want to work on. Any and all. If you're reading this, I mean you!

I'm so happy with how this is coming together now, the laser feels fantastic. It still needs more juice but I'd say this is about 50x as effective as the previous iteration, what do you think?

Slow progress as Ive been in a bit of a slump but my little guy can shoot now. I hoped I could get away with not showing projectiles bc of the performance cost but I dont think this sells the effect. Anybody got any ideas for ways I can add juice without more sprites?

Accessibility question for PC games -
What I'm working on right now will have the mouse as the only means of interacting with the game (nothing very precise). Are there accessibility concerns with that? If so, what alternatives can I consider?
#indiedev#accessibility
Would anybody with a background in 'professional' game dev be willing to chat with me a little about project planning and project management when working within teams? Super engaging topics I know π I'd be very grateful!
