What do your kids' friends play, though? I have noticed a lot of gamedevs (including myself) eager to jump into "kids these days actually hate f2p/roblox shit" but it's almost always gamedev kids - their friends are mostly playing f2p mobile games on their phones and fortnite/roblox if they console.

Well that's the main reason I'm making this raytracer - to be part of making this older style more accessible again. Phong shaded ray tracers sorta got replaced by newer PBR path tracers and we lost something with that IMHO. It's not impossible to do today - but I hope to make it an easier option.

Hear me out: Playdate for interactive fiction. Turns out it's possible to fit @inkle.co's ink engine on the 50€ Xteink X4 e-reader of internet fame. Who's in?
After four straight days of optimising I've finally gotten a consistent 180 or so FPS on my laptop and 1000+ on my desktop. Nothing feels nicer than looking back and realised all of the work you've put in has led somewhere. The laptop was originally struggling to hit 30! #GameDev #IndieDev #Unity
Went from 317 to 513 FPS on my 4070 Super over the past 4 days of optimising.. but my mate with a 1060 / i7-8700 hovers around 90-120. What do gamers expect performance-wise from a game like this? Anyone have any tips? I’d love for them to consistently get 120. #GameDev #Unity #IndieGame
I had to change some aspects of my artstyle, but it doubled my FPS, hopefully meaning I won't have to worry about optimisation for the rest of the project. Sometimes you have to consider whether that super expensive feature that's 'key to your artstyle' is actually key and if it's worth keeping.

The downside of optimising a game is eventually you’re done with it and you wonder what else you could possibly do to optimise further if the need arises.

Oh my, what a font, what a font! "Mancine uses an unusual contrast model inspired by left-handed calligraphy, which converges with the principles of Art Nouveau into an elegant and completely unique display typeface." www.herzbergdesign.com/mancine

More than a century after Pearl beer magnate Otto Koehler's shocking death, "The Three Emmas" legend still looms large. But the true story, involving a citywide effort to cover it up, is wilder than most people know. https://www.texasmonthly.com/culture/san-antonio-three-emmas-legend/

You can optimise your Unity game by a ridiculous amount (in the early stages) just by opening the Frame Debugger, looking at every discrete step, and asking yourself ‘What is that doing and do I even need it?’
