Todays #RetroTech & #TapeBoxTuesday Very early Telephone Answering & Messaging Machine Takachiho ATE-30 Optical Sensor to stop the Tape Loop 30 Second Cartridges 3 Lines Input It’s had previous lives in Doctors Office in Sacramento, California USA & an emergency stand-in for a broken home unit

Todays #RetroTech Old Tat in the stash - Pt 2 Sony JumboTron Tech LDU 515 Display Unit, 1998 This is a much later LED Modular Panel Panels were built into Modular Frames. Simple locking mech gave easy access to swap out failed units. Much lighter, less power hungry than earlier CRT Versions

Todays #RetroTech Old Tat in the stash One Unit of a Sony JumboTron If you went to a big sports event or concert in the 80s or early 90s, the BIG screen was probably a JumboTron These are basically row up on row of tiny CRTs

If you have any fancy box sets with slip mats inside......take them out. Just had a lovely box set in from 2016 and one side of the record nearest the slip mats was gassed. 😬

Picked up a framed Magnavox LaserVision Ad from back in the day Seems to be a lot of this kinda stuff about at the moment. Guess the old boys who were Collectors, Dealers or had shops, are popping off & their stashes are coming to market Be a hell of a clearance when my time comes. Poor Mrs AVAV

Collected a few LaserDisc Interactive Games over the years Only ever found one on CED Now found a second & its on both LD & CED Mystery Disc - Many Roads to Murder Cluedo type game, Vidmax 1982 CAV with Auto Pause & Random Tracks Fairly basic, as you’d expect Week at the Races is the other CED

Time to hang another Clock New Arrival at AVAV Towers My kinda thing, yep, Old Tat Clock made from late 70s Burroughs Hard Disk Platter Not sure if the Board is related, don’t care, I like it & its going on the Workshop Wall It’s 13” & it’s a thing of beauty Writing on back states what it was

It’s #TapeBoxTuesday Picked up something I’ve not seen before Sony V-35 Video Tape Spool Late 60s with Auto-threading Leader 5” Spool, 1/2” Tape, roughly 22 mins at 7 1/2” p/s Hunch is for CV Skip Field. Poss EIAJ Cartridge, but why not just use Cart Pic 4 is Panasonic EIAJ2, which use Carts

Posties been Todays #RetroTech Old Tat DataPlay - Optical Discs c2002 Tiny 32mm WORM Discs, for Music or Data. 500 MB Didn’t hang round long, the pre-recorded titles are very rare. I’ve had Discs but not the Drives Next to £1 coin for scale WORM - Write Once Read Many. Like CD-R

Grundig EN3 Transcription Job All done & Digitised These are very rare & I’ve only done a handful over the years 1965 Dictation System. Double Sided Cartridge, approx 20 - 25 mins ish Run Time. I say “ish” as no two machines ran at the same speed & as its Rim Drive the speed varies

More 80’s Classics #NowPlaying First saw her on C4 The Switch, then it all kicked off following her appearance on The Tube Still sounds perfect. They don’t make em like this anymore

Day of Dodgy Cables Back to Communal System, cunky Coax cut by the Gardeners - Repair Cost now Approved Remove & Replace repair to Sky Feed done “with the correct connectors & to the correct standard” OK, if you say so Replaced crappy broken PoundShop Fly Lead causing issues Pics pre Repair

If there was ever a good example to not trust your Video Tapes to just anyone, especially those cockwombles who use AI generated Ads, here it is There are so many mistakes in this shit, it’s hard to know where to start I hate AI, but those that use it unchecked are equally to blame

See, I should’t be let out, even with Nursie MTV Karaoke Machine with CRT was still in Chazza, now Reduced to £10 Yep of course I did Combination of CRT & Integral CD-G Playback, too much for an Old Geek As I’d hoped, it supports full CD-Graphics Playback, also has AV In & Out Quick test for now

Oh dear, more Old Tat from the AVAV Towers Archives CD Ephemera CD Stampers from Nimbus, Wales This one is CD-i Audio, an 8 Hour Back Ground Music, Green Book Disc Smooth Pop - 96 Tracks Nimbus were great, supplying Spare Stampers for later Repressing Label Template from Disctronics Southwater

Trip via Tip Shop Picked up a few bits Mono HMV Ella’s Pourcel - Studio2Stereo Muppets - couldn’t leave it Klaus - couldn’t leave it Private Recording 10” Acetate - can’t leave them either It’s a disease I tell you, an affliction NURSE!!

Random Old Tat from my Telecom Days Merch from Phone Co Reps Nokia 7110 Dry Wipe Board Idea was to show off the huge (for its time) Screen. Snake all day IYKYK 7110 was NOT The Matrix Phone, that was Film Prop modified 8110 Motorola Clock for Timeport TriBand Phone. Covered GSM 850/900/1800

Next release on Unspun Heroes looks like this. Two discs of hand-poured translucent marbled vinyl made to look like the tide washing in on a Cornish beach. Preorders are shipping from tomorrow. Officially out on Friday.

Dah, The Phantom Stapler is back. It’s been awhile, I hoped he’d gone for good. It has to be a man, women aren’t that stupid He checks the Records, then staples the sleeve shut, so you know they’ve been quality checked…… the sleeve is no longer “quality”, but there you go

Life of an Archivist No 826 The process of a Reel to Reel Tape Had knots in it, which I assumed were accidental. But they are homemade Splices - all THREE of em Put in proper Splices Clean off the dust & apparently release the nicotine smell Play & Capture Top n Tail, clean, edit & boost Audio

Posies been Nice piece of ephemera** to hang in the Studio Ad for Philips CD 100, Gramophone Magazine, April 1983 Will look lovely framed, hanging above the machine ** that my word for it. The wife’s is “more bloody shit”

At Last! Sky & SES Astra have signed a Distribution Agreement, running well into the next decade This will keep Sky HD & Q On-Air for the foreseeable future. Assuming BBC also sign up with SES, that will extend Freesat too Seems all ‘+1’s will go & channels migrate to DVB-S2, which makes sense

Having a LaserDisc Day Enjoying a pile of Discs I picked up couple of months ago & put to one side Some cracking BBC Releases I’d not seen before. A 5” CDV Clip Disc & a VCD, along with a LaserJuke Video Jukebox NTSC 8” Also an Interactive CAV Disc of East of England Show 1984. Seems to be rare

Another Magnet Media Warning! miniDV - Helping a buddy out with a job. He couldn’t get stable picture without blocking or decent sync on a few Tapes There’s a reason Broadcast Kit was so expensive back in day. These Sony DSR-2000s hang on where Domestic Decks don’t These Tapes are failing rapidly

‘Tis #TapeBoxTuesday Something a little different, a couple of new arrivals for the stash Allsop3 Head Cleaner for Video 2000. Never seen one before. Love V2000 CamLink Care Kit with Head Cleaner for Video 8. Sold a ton of em back in my Hi Fi Shop days They both contain Tapes & are in boxes

Something very unusual has arrived at AVAV Towers for Recovery & Digitising Only ever had a handful of these This one contains a Wedding These are particularly difficult as they are Rim Driven, so not constant speed. No two machines ran at exactly same speed & age of Tape Grundig EN3 c1964

In case you missed it, or have decided it was so darn good you want to listen to it all over again….. Here is my #CharityShopClassics Listeners Choice from yesterday Go on, give it try

Are there any sweeter words? “We just had three boxes donated. Would you like to look through them?” In between the Val, Jim, Max, J La, Mantovani, Readers Digest….. KPM LPs, a Banger John Barry, BBC Decimal Coin Info LP & 2 totally random Diana Ross 12” Clear Promos Always worth a rummage
