My number one rule about culture writing is that craft cannot compensate for contempt. If you hate the people, you cannot write about their culture. Apropos of nothing.

It sounds silly but people need to be reminded that doing things makes doing the thing easier in the future. I think it's easy to forget this when life often demands we are "good" at something right away. You do not need to be "good" you just need to be doing it. 🙌
