whats he going to do that would make them do that, pivot to twitch streaming about wealth redistribution? attend a student protest where somebody said ~from the river to the sea~?

Micah@rincewind.run

it would actually be tremendously helpful if elon decides to publicly pick a fight with democrats to the point that they can’t help but impose real consequences on him

The thing that's kind of grimly funny is that islamophobia is so normalized amongst this country's political class that nobody is even asking *why* he should disavow the Muslim Brotherhood in particular, the simple concept of an organization of Muslims is taken as self-evidently menacing enough

James Goodwin@jamesgoodwin.bsky.social

El-Sayed is going to forced to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood at least a dozen times more before the midterms. The point is clearly not the answer. The point is the question. It's basically push-polling.

At the risk of stating the obvious, Dem politicians and consultants aren't fixating on Hasan *despite* the fact most ppl have no idea who he is, it's *because* of that. They think they can Sister Souljah him, and this will be a political masterstroke, because their brains atrophied in like 1994

I think the universal grieving comes in no small part from the fact she represented the best of what America could be, and that she never stopped chasing that ideal, artistically and socially

just went out of town for a week. On the way back American Airlines trapped me in dfw overnight, and when I finally got home (just now), it appears a leak developed at some point like... *directly* over my bed. Does anyone know what to do with a soaking wet mattress lol 😭

Wow. Chaos on the Tennessee House floor. Tennesseans yelling in the gallery and Democrats locking arms in one final stand, as Republicans vote to advance new congressional maps that will carve up the state’s only majority-Black congressional district.

Prem Thakker ツ@premthakker.bsky.social

BREAKING—Tennessee Republicans have voted to draw new maps that will *eliminate* the state's only Black-majority district & the only seat held by a Democrat. @justinjpearson.bsky.social: "As long as we never quit, they cannot win. We may lose some battles along the way, but this war is a long one."

Don't particularly blame anybody (like what is the ✌️productive✌️ response to ~unto dust shalt thou return~?) but gotta say a lot of the reactions I'm seeing to the long-term projections for the city are hovering somewhere between denial and cope

You might think liberalism is trapped at the End of History, intellectually and morally bankrupt, completely bereft of ideas and incapable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century. but have you considered... ✨ Cold War 2 ✨ ???

Adam Gurri@adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com

For decades the neoliberal approach to China was essentially—trade with them, create interdependencies, and between the Chinese people seeing how awesome we are, and the normal political effects of economic development, they’ll liberalize. That approach is dead. We need to think about what’s next

[me, to the pack of rabid dogs devouring my legs]: it would only take One of you to make the Right Choice for Our Nation 😢

Rex Huppke@rexhuppke.bsky.social

It would take only a handful of Republicans to step onto the right side of history and stop this madness. They would be remembered well. It's right there for the taking.

what's funny about the platner stuff is that nobody talking about it seems concerned the US military has a pretty rich history of using nazi shit last ~50yrs? USMC snipers use the SS bolts, reservists use the Afrika Korp logo, the fuckin secdef has an iron cross tattoo, this shit everywhere yall lol

legit think there needs to be a conversation about how many people on the left appear to Smart Guy'd themselves into thinking that consistent large-scale propaganda doesn't work or isn't effective, because uh... it does and it is

it's so funny to me all these people in the year two thousand and twenty six are like "... now I'm NOT worried every channel being a right-wing slop factory will turn people right-wing" dawg look around, what do you think has happened, who do you think is the president right now

and you can say that without being "oh people are just brainwashed." simply setting the discourse agenda and what topics people should be focusing on is *enormously* powerful! This was obvious to people on the left 50 years ago, quite puzzling that it is even a question!

imo the threat posed by CBS News and CNN getting absorbed by pro-regime billionaires isn't that they're going to produce right-wing slop that convinces people to be right-wing, it's the dismantling of newsrooms capable of doing investigative reporting on the administration. Fewer eyes on the street.

look at my alternatives dog - breaux mart, not on the apps, typically is out of like... bread and milk but has 12 kinds of bloody mary mix, aisles organized according to forbidden eldritch knowledge - aldi, which im pretty sure just sells shit fell off a truck

made the mistake of turning on the SOTU for a couple mins and my big takeaways are 1) I overestimated the degree to which describing people as "waxy ghouls" is always hyperbole and 2) it is shocking and should be an absolute scandal that half of that chamber is not completely empty
