One fun bit you can do: when passing a child/baby crying, turn to your friend/partner, cock your thumb in the child’s direction and say ‘someone’s being a real baby over there’

America often seems like a desolate, unredeemable place, but then you remember they did that whole Midwest emo thing. Maybe they’re not all that bad.

Please remember that if you’re in the queue then legally they have to recognise your blood offering and let you have your turn upon the altar of sacrifice

I’d think a popular counter to this narrative would be how you reframe his point of view as very anti-Britain. He wants to lose ‘traditional’ countryside scenes, lose the animals we kindly host here, lose our stoic British attitudes to rain - all a bit waffly nonsense, but something there!

So Richard Tice, should farmers just "enjoy" low crop yields? Should the thousands who've died from the heatwaves just "enjoy" their premature deaths? What about the families whose homes have burned down in the wildfires? Charlatans with their heads in the sand. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Music discovery as a thing seems really broken - input what you listen to, the algorithm spits out things it thinks you’d like. When I listened to some of my favourite bands for the first time I had absolutely no idea what I was even listening to, took days for my brain to even parse songs out.

Jason Arday’s suicide is the appalling result of multiple failures, a substantial portion of which can be levied at the UK press. Speaking out on the situation as it was unravelling though, for what it was, a systemic racism problem that held people of colour to far higher standards than any other

group of people, was something that once again fell to non-white people to raise, risking their own safety in doing so. We’ve got to be better about this division of the emotional burden we place on others, and be better at speaking out (myself included).

It is a travesty that it is lunchtime at the Little Bagel Co in Bristol and I am the only one in - their Super VBB is so amazing.

Plagued by AI poster monstrosities everywhere in daily life, I would like to produce stickers that read ‘Your AI poster looks shit, mate’ to stick over them. Would love to commission a design for a these.

Going to start replying to more people with ‘Okay? Good for you? Firstly, I can't eat beans’

Okay? Good for you? Firstly, I can't eat beans, I'm allergic to everything but green beans so, that's out. Secondly, I don't eat this every day. I just had surgery and this was a treat for myself so I didn't have to cook. Prior to this it's been TV dinners and premade casseroles.

Remembering a childhood game where you’d pinch the skin on the back of your hand to determine your calcium levels (I know), I googled to see if it was a shared experience and instead stumbled upon the most cursed images imaginable

This story about Reform donations is also a story about climate change.

Can’t believe when I basically non-stop listened to Aim and Ignite by fun. all through 2009-10 after a glowing review on SputnikMusic, that I’d be living in a world where their sound would go on to dominate all pop for ever more

Gordon isn’t really the kind of footballer name I can get behind. He should probably rename himself ‘Ronaldo’ - or, at the very least, ‘Ronaldinho’

I don’t think I’ve ever done a two-move checkmate before in all the years I’ve played chess! (Please ignore my rating - this is blitz and I’m a recovering childhood chess prodigy)

If I was prime minister my first act would be changing the English language words for places to their local names. We do it with Welsh place names already (Snowden to Yr Wyddfa), let’s do it globally (Florence to Firenze, Germany to Deutschland, etc).

One positive takeaway for Kier Starmer after this whole thing is over is his potential on the circuit as an Andy Burnham impersonator.

Lovely thread about well-loved board games!

Over the weekend, my kids and I played a ton of Catan, and after decades of service, we decided to retire our beloved set. Here's a little appreciation thread for objects of play and their gradual decay 🧵

The only bet I’d be willing to place is on how many social media posts reading ‘Vaxxed?’ will appear when JFK Jr dies. I’d say at least five hundred thousand.

RFK Jr: We had lots of guns when we were kids. Kids brought guns to school and were encouraged to do so. And nobody was walking into schools and shooting people. There are many things that could explain this. One is the dependence on psychiatric drugs.

it's common that i see reviews on Goodreads that criticize a book for a "heavy use of dialogue." is this a thing? do people actually dislike dialogue-driven plots? why? #books #reading #goodreads
