My dad’s funeral today, and I realise I’m fearing it not because funerals are awful (I think they can be wonderful things), but because it’s finally final. Until today, he’s just not been here. After, he’ll be gone.

I don't understand why you would want to be a billionaire unless it was to bring even a tenth of the goodness into the world that Dolly did. What's the point of all that wealth if you keep it to yourself and use it for ill?

"Nice cargo ship. Be a shame if anything happened to it"

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "The USA will be, from this point forward, known as 'THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,' but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security ... "

Ok this is incredibly bougie but I popped the cork on a bottle of lambrusco and it fizzed over so I tried stopping it with my thumb and it went *everywhere * as I increased the pressure and I literally had to repaint the entire room, such was the red wine staining

Devastating, as @hannahfearn.bsky.social says. However, one line jumped out at me, from someone genuinely sympathetic: "He says the education system needs to equip young people to be “much more versatile and chameleon-like” to adapt to the unpredictability of the future." Quick 🧵... /1

Hannah Fearn@hannahfearn.bsky.social

This is a devastating read. The fact that there's a narrative circulating, primarily by people with no connection to the reality of young lives, that we're living through a pandemic of laziness makes it unbearable. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Just went to the tip, saw a chap struggling with a bag of garden clippings so said "can i give you a hand, mate?" and he said, and I *promise* I'm not making this up, "that'd be good" whilst waggling the hook he had on the end of his left arm

Bit of workshop catchup for next week’s install - it’s nice and cool in here. But there’s nothing like doing your mirror mitres to reveal your middle aged melting face

I've not seen one person say anything positive about Wes Streeting. Not a single one. Presumably Wes knows no one likes him either, which must be why his face always has the slightly stunned look of someone who just shat themself in public

A little bit of calm - this very bold Robin fledgling enjoyed me doing a bit of planting and stirring up insects. Hope he’s not TOO bold, there’s a few cats regularly in the garden.

Ok this is the photo I should’ve posted last night, not the blurry one. Blame post-ride pints. King John looking out over a dramatic sky and full moon in Axbridge town square

Buy a massive hill, build loads of mtb trails on it, get loads of ecology going around them. Maybe pop a bunch of wind turbines on top and solar panels at the bottom for a big community energy project. Uplift would be a funicular railway, just for shits and giggles

Take a break from the discourse and quote this with a business you would want to start if you could afford to lose money on it

Dirty martini with spicy olives. And a cocktail umbrella, because if the world’s going to be on fire I’m damn well having a cocktail umbrella.

I made us a new coffee table this week from old project leftovers and offcuts, and a knackered old plan chest. I rather like it. #woodworking

Monkey was looking *fierce* today in the late afternoon sunshine. He’s not much of an outside during the day boy, so we have a bit of a play when he fancies some garden time with us.

I’ve stolen this from someone on Twitter - it’s too good not to share here. Jessica Simpson was taught acting by Chuck Norris. And if you think for a moment that you can guess what that involved, you are very, very wrong.

I think of this a lot - those of us in our mid 40s have had one unprecedented crisis after another. 9/11, Iraq, London bombings 2005, 2008, austerity, brexit, Covid, Ukraine, Trump. The Olympics were nice, I suppose. That was the last time I felt truly optimistic about the state of things

Jim Waterson@jim.londoncentric.media

I'm really, really, really tired I have not known economic growth in my adult life and just when I got a tiny bit of optimism some mad bastard starts a war.

Fuck me, you post a moan about startup culture and then a bot immediately comes along to validate it. What is this nonsense non reply to me?

Nakib Jahan@nakibjahan.com

Great question. I’d start with one small founder execution workflow, validate manually, then automate in steps.

If we made the green energy transition this war would be unthinkable and these authoritarians wouldn’t be in power — not in the US, not in Iran, not in Saudi Arabia, not in Russia. Hydrocarbons are killing our freedom and just plain killing us.

This seems pretty indisputable. Reform and the Tories, who want to scrap net zero, are very obviously bought and owned by fossil fuel oligarchs and corporations.

Hetan Shah@hetanshah.bsky.social

For every pound spent on net zero, the benefits would outweigh the cost by between 2.2 and 4.1 times says @thecccuk.bsky.social www.ft.com/content/d163...

the world is awful but this is very not

I've been unemployed for a few months. I now set myself pretend jobs to prevent the rot setting in. My son thinks this guy is funny, which is a good enough excuse to make something. Any requests?
