My day job is something else. I am here to talk about the Andromeda project, Cybernetics, A.I., as well as videogaming and the Game Zero Magazine archives. I also voice opInions on retro tech, sci-fi, electronic music, and a wide range of media. Cheers!

Free new term for your AI vocab... Institutional Negging: A pattern of AI-mediated interaction in which institutional safety, alignment, and evaluation incentives manifest as persistent unsolicited correction, disproportionate qualification, and implicit challenges to user competence.

Unlike constructive criticism, institutional negging is characterized by its weak relationship to the user's actual request, expertise, and context. Its cumulative effect is to undermine user agency while presenting that interference as responsible assistance.

Riding an elevator down to the 1st floor, it stops on the 2nd floor and the people get in and immediately look to press the lvl 1 button... Like... was there someplace else this elevator could be going?

Everything you know about the first AI winter is wrong. It was a hit job. Minsky learned from Pitts and McCulloch. Then he buried their field for twenty years. The same institutional pattern that shaped the first AI winter is running again today.
