I do policy & comms in OR. I make art, jokes, & political commentary. I like peer reviewed articles, sci-fi, pop & raging against the fascist machine. I think about the question “What keeps us safe?” Dreaming of what could be. Views my own.

“What’s an effective social media strategy in politics right now?” Me: *Sigh* “Well. The girls on Tik Tok are making thirst trap videos of Mamdani and El Sayed to Daddy’s Home by Usher.”

Inextricably linked is my desire to party and my work to build a better world The kind of world I am fighting for is for the girls and gays at the club, free of sexual assault and full of bestie fun vibes 💖✨

I made this for me Yes, I can clock in and do work for the community with my big heart and then clock out and then go to Vegas to party with Charli xcx, what’s not computing. Big heart, bigger butt

I’ve had girls and gay men hold my hand and look eyes in the club bathroom like we’ve been best friends forever I’ve seen queer people ask so politely and consensually to a dancer “can I put this dollar somewhere?” This is the world I want to live in

Dudes, send thots and prayers to Charli xcx, who missed her last show yesterday as she was sick. Seeing her in Vegas tomorrow to make my dreams come true. Docs, give her the good stuff but also, rest up 😭💖

My favorite Tik Tok sound that plays in my head when either 1) I get self conscious or 2) someone in fact, does say something weird, is “Sources confirm, your vibe was weird and yes, everyone could tell.” -newscaster voice

Timeline cleanse. Remember what we are fighting for. For example, I would like to fight for more fall foliage strolls uninterrupted by upsetting phone notifications.

Feeling inadequate because everyone on Bluesky appears to be an author or a lawyer or a scientist? Follow me and feel better about yourself, for I have the intellect of a clever potato.

We’ve probably always lived like this since the foundation of this country, but especially under Trumpian times, everyday, there never ceases to be bad legislation, a bigoted statement by a person in power, and harm done by people in power against women, children, etc. (see the files, Cornell.)

As we may have strong pattern recognition, it may not be shocking to many, or perhaps we are desensitized. But there never ceases to be a new low that they reach. There never ceases to be statements that are so weird and gross, you look at your phone with absolute disgust.

We can’t react to every news story in this huge country and in this world; I try to stick to my niche, and I can’t scatter my force. If you’re spread thin, you will lose impact. We can’t put out all fires everywhere, but we can put out the one in front of us.

Nearly 800,000 people took to the streets in over 140 cities across France on Saturday. The protests were made up of high school and university students demanding better education conditions, as well as labor unions, who mobilized workers in protest of public service cuts.

The greatest challenge of our time isn’t to figure out how to get to Mars or become interstellar, but to figure out how to live sustainably on Earth.

With Mayor Mamdani’s policies and platform being implemented at such a lightning speed rate, begs the question, what if we loved ourselves too

Maybeeee we can adjust the 10 min timer and think about if we want to do a QR code, but PDX should have more restrooms! CC: City of Portland lol

Chris Sprigman@cjsprigman.bsky.social

One of the 17 new public restrooms that Mamdani deployed as a pilot is around the block from my apartment. Politicians in New York City have been talking about this for years. It turns out you can just do it.

Attn: Portland

We’re expanding our discretionary grant pilot program to speed up funding for nonprofits that serve New Yorkers. Now, 800 nonprofit partners are on track to receive funding within 30 days — cutting months of red tape so they can spend less time on paperwork and more time serving our communities.

Never underestimate the power of the emotion of disgust. I think whole revolutions, movements, and policy changes can start with a girl saying, “ew”

The xenophobia, Islamophobia, and racism is running rampant right now with people asking electeds of color about Hasan Piker. See: El Sayed’s campaign. Maybe ask about their platform / policies and not about a streamer...?

Sameer Kanal@kanalforportland.bsky.social

As a non-candidate I've been asked if I disavow Hasan Piker and if I condemn Mitch's tweets. Not sure I've ever seen any of the conservatives asked at a public event if they disavow / condemn anyone yet.

Closing neighborhood schools is extremely risky and threatens to bring about the very enrollment crisis that the closures are supposed to address. We need urgent action to change the state funding model and I support a pause in this process and consider the community concerns more carefully.

Maybe we can consider shifting language from saying: “young, promising, up-and-coming woman” to “accomplished, incredible leader of our times, a professional / expert / advocate, etc with political moral clarity” about women in their 20s-30s who absolutely kill it. Angelita or AOC for reference.

I'm in Committee, where we hear recommendations to expand Portland Street Response. This past budget cycle, I passed my Community and Health budget, restoring $659k and 4 positions to PSR. In today’s discussion, I will consider how we can build on that investment to get people the care they need.

The Public Safety Committee is reviewing recommendations for Portland Street Response today. Because it's election season, I'll point out that the Dumb Two Cents Thing™ will siphon $16M from the general fund, which is more than the entire PSR budget and then some. www.portland.gov/sites/defaul...

I’m telling you, the art of distraction works and we can just give him little interior design projects around the White House to focus on, rather than further worsening immigrants’ lives

Today in the Housing and Permitting Committee Chair Avalos had to interrupt and call to order Brian Owendoff who violated our rules of decorum and engaged in ableist slurs at the dais. Mr. Owendoff’s comments were deplorable and the chair was right to gavel him out.
