In one of the most important convos I’ve had this year, I talked with Sherry Turkle about how our interactions with AI platforms, simulated companions, and artificial personalities can reshape us, diminish our capacities, and alter our very conceptions of ourselves and what it means to be a person.

truthout.orgArtificial Intimacy Is Changing Who We Are“We start to judge our human interactions by what the chatbot can deliver,” says author Sherry Turkle.

we saw a VERY tired black witch at mothapalooza in ohio this year, and it was the highlight of the weekend for many!!

YOUR 2026 MOTH CUP CHAMPION IS THE BLACK WITCH! 🏆 Ascalapha odorata takes the crown, with the Tropical Swallowtail Moth (Lyssa zampa) coming in second place. Thank you to everyone who played along!

Well isn't this just the coolest thing I've ever seen

Hiya folks! For new people here's the big project we have been working on in Panamá! The Mothbox! It's a fully #opensource insect camera trap with loads of documentation to build the whole thing yourself from off the shelf parts! digital-naturalism-laboratories.github.io/Mothbox/

If I see one more person post “plant endangered plants to prevent ai data centers!” my brain is going to explode The level to which people assume our government has ANY plant protections is just so frustrating The bell bowl effect never goes away, I am still SO ANGRY

one of the coolest things about taking photography is how i can recall exactly where i was standing during every photo, even just quick shots that i took 6 years ago. i can remember the weather, even the time of day. but i cant remember what i had for breakfast yesterday. mmmmmm.

slowly, the image forms like puzzle pieces coming together into one cohesive image. one reason that i continue to occasionally use this method 10 years into my professional illustration career is because it is sooooooo satisfying. #art #illustration #sciart #nature 🦉

the process is similar across digital and physical mediums. we start by creating a grid on top of our reference, and a second grid on our drawing surface (procreate file, paper, bedroom wall, etc.) #art #illustration #sciart #nature 🦉
