"The Call" is definitely your time to make sure that an agent would be a good fit for you (we already love your book, so barring wild circumstances, we're locked in!) It is absolutely appropriate to voice your communication needs and to let an agent know where you might need accommodations #AskDV

As a neurodivergent writer who has learning disabilities. How do I go about addressing agents that I have this? How can we work together as a write who is Dyslexic to make it a smooth journey? #AskDV #F #MG #YA #ND

In a query: 1) Who's the mc/mc's, 2) What do they want and what will they have to do get it, 3) What happens if they succeed, and what happens if they fail? Plus bio and book info. In a pitch: Pretty much the same, but in sentences instead of paragraphs, and minus the book info and bio. #AskDV

I don't mind when an author who queries me is interested in multiple genres; it can make it easier to sub multiple projects at once! Broadly speaking, planning the next book usually depends on where we are with submissions, whether something is under contract, what the option clause is, etc. #AskDV

natashabooks.bsky.social@natashabooks.bsky.social

How much do you care whether an author's next books stay in the same genre as the debut? Is moving between Southern Gothic, horror, and contemporary supernatural a plus or a risk? #askdv

I really think this depends on execution and individual preference; you can't account for every editor or agent's taste! #AskDV

Nisa Akin@nisaakin.bsky.social

#AskDv Does first-person present tense create a market concern for adult epic fantasy, especially with large-scale worldbuilding, or is that mostly judged on execution?

It's definitely helpful to update an agent on big revisions if they already have your book. For new subs, it's not necessary to mention in the query. If a previous agent expressed interest while passing, it could be worth reaching out to let them know, unless their guidelines say otherwise #AskDV

Claire Every@cripademia.bsky.social

If a manuscript has been revised substantially since the start of querying due to an R&R, is it useful to mention that in future queries? Is it worth contacting agents previously queried? #AskDV

IMHO historical fiction needs to consider modern readership. It makes sense that a character would have outdated beliefs. But if those beliefs are harmful and not eventually unpacked on the page, know that they won't be excused just because they're period accurate, and plan accordingly #AskDV

Viktor Athelstan@viktorathelstan.bsky.social

#askdv Do agents prefer historical fiction characters to have period accurate beliefs or do they prefer the characters to have modern beliefs? (MC is a 9th century monk and his worldviews reflect the setting. I'm wondering if this is off putting for current audiences.)

Keep in mind that your book will be shelved in one section of a bookstore rather than on multiple shelves. An agent can help refine that category before subbing your book, but I'd consider what might be the primary genre, i.e. a horror with romantic elements, or a romance with horror elements #AskDV

Jaimee Choi 🪐📚@jaimeechoi.bsky.social

#askDV it seems crossover may be popular right now, but what is your advice for pitching manuscripts that may straddle a few genres?

I'm readyyyy 🙌

Someone recommended I write a clearer thread for the GFM (to help people understand why I'm sick/stressed/the need), so I hope all of you don't mind the additional context. *trigger warning, mentions of abuse* In February 2025, I was violently attacked by an ex. He was 440 pounds, I was 137.

Spaces that support queer stories and queer communities are as vital now as they’ve ever been, and it would mean so much if you’d help us to re-resource and grow 📚🌱🏳️‍⚧️ surl.lt/khsjna

Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.

Grab your hot pants and disco boots, because it’s pub day for WHAT IF…KITTY PRYDE STOLE THE PHOENIX FORCE? It’s a little weird, a lot timey-wimey, and most of all, a love letter to these characters and comics I grew up alongside 🐦‍🔥

Some good news! After all that, only O.03% of families opted out of LGBTQ+ Education in Maryland after the Supreme Court gave them the ability to do so. Not just a majority, not just most families, nearly all families want their kids to have access to this education. We are the majority

I'm sorry to have to ask, but please don't use the DVpit query link unless I've requested your story; I'm trying to be realistic and fair in my number of requests!

Becca Podos@beccapodos.bsky.social

Welcome back, DVpit! While I'm closed to queries, I'm still looking for some particular stories, so please feel free to submit a query and full here if I like your pitch: querytracker.net/query/BeccaP... (and if I like a project that's already in my inbox, just message through QM to let me know 🙏)

Another violent attack by an ICE officer on a civilian at 26 Federal Plaza—this time on a journalist, who had to be carried out on stretcher. Another attack on the First Amendment, our neighbors, and our democracy.

The debate around what is or isn’t “cancel culture” really just obscures a simple truth that it’s BAD to be massively racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic and it’s GOOD to speak out against injustice. Some things are good and some things are bad and it’s okay to say which you think are which.

There are 12 days ‘til Pryde Month (heh heh heh) and I’m counting down with book quotes from WHAT IF…KITTY PRYDE STOLE THE PHOENIX FORCE? Let’s start with absolute legend America Chavez, for no particular reason 🐦‍🔥

Sickening. Every journalist in America should think deeply about the fact that most American politicians are willing to accept and indeed facilitate the murder of our colleagues.
