“I’m actually not terribly concerned about being prosecuted,” Lt Gov Deidre Henderson told me. “It gives me a little bit of hope when they start escalating like this. Because they’re getting a little desperate. Their attempts aren’t working.” www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

newyorker.comThe State Officials Defending the Midterms from the PresidentDonald Trump has tried to purge voter rolls nationwide. Deidre Henderson, the Republican lieutenant governor of Utah, is among the chief election officers standing in his way.

Weird pic aside, I really enjoyed this conversation with the great @rickpildes.bsky.social. We covered a lot of ground, but ultimately, though the feds are trying harder than ever to interfere with the election, I am encouraged and optimistic that all their efforts are failing, and will continue to.

NEW PODCAST: The 2026 Elections - Where We Stand. An important conversation between @beckerdavidj.bsky.social, Executive Director @electioninnov.bsky.social, and Faculty Director and Professor @rickpildes.bsky.social @nyulaw.bsky.social Listen here: democracyproject.org/posts/podcas...

And voters are showing their confidence by voting and voting early! We are seeing very high, even record early voting numbers across the nation.

With less than two weeks until the midterms, a wide majority of voters say that they largely trust that the results of the upcoming election will be accurate, according to a New York Times/Siena poll. trib.al/luPLWjC

Listen to @justinlevitt.bsky.social! They have no tools, and no power. So they’ll keep turning up the volume. But any effort to subvert the election will fail. ~20M ballots are already cast with still 12 days to go!

Justin Levitt@justinlevitt.bsky.social

And here’s the point I can’t emphasize enough. “Every way they can” is correct. Those ways involve: 1) Communications to try to convince the American people they are all-powerful and American votes don’t matter 2) End of list. If we don’t listen to #1, none of the other options work.

Great piece from @maryellenklas.bsky.social, with good advice: "The internet is an inviting host for allowing the mischief to continue in the weeks ahead. Let’s keep our wits about us. Thank the hard-working elections officials who keep the system sound, and don’t be duped."

Mary Ellen Klas@maryellenklas.bsky.social

The federal government, or foreign bad actors, don't have to interfere with the mechanics of the voting process to disrupt the election. It's depressingly easy to mess with people's minds instead. via @opinion www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

In this decision, SCOTUS reaffirms that systematic, mass voter list maintenance is BANNED during the 90 days before any federal election, explicitly acknowledging that only "individualized inquiries" can be conducted within 90 days of an election, consistent with the National Voter Registration Act.

Breaking News: The Supreme Court ruled the Trump administration can deploy an expansive voter identification tool, allowing states to hunt for ineligible voters. Critics fear using the system could result in the purging valid voters from state rolls. nyti.ms/4he3RHK

As the DOJ seeks to pressure states to relinquish sensitive data on hundreds of millions of American voters (DOJ now 0-25 in those cases) we shouldn’t forget that the feds have an atrocious record re: protecting sensitive data. Why would any state trust them? www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/u...

This is the reason Congress passed the Privacy Act of 1974. To prevent the federal govt from collecting vast amounts of Americans' private data to weaponize against them, in this case against their voting rights. Kudos to this brave whistleblower for coming forward. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/14/u...
