Some folks online recently bumped into my autobiography without knowing there had actually been one. And while searching other topics today on NPR I bumped into one of the reviews of said book, which I took as a sign to link it here for the curious. www.npr.org/2019/07/23/7...

npr.org'Becoming Superman' Chronicles The Life And Career Of J. Michael StraczynskiWhile the prolific Hollywood writer's career is well-documented, his personal history has been a mystery. His memoir is painful and inspiring, infuriating and full of hope, humorous and depressing.

Great to meet & thank in person folks who've had time for me online. Books on a rainy day weren't bad. Thanks @theatre-goer.bsky.social @mattsawyer.bsky.social @dhollingsworth.bsky.social @gossjam.bsky.social

My gentle response to “BBC Editorial Guidelines requirements for impartiality” is this: 'impartiality' implies competitors, toward a victor. Uni v uni is a competition but queer v straight isn't. It really isn't. Hurt can hurt as much as love can delight but the fear and the hate's gotta stop. 🏳️‍🌈

Twenty years of nuWho and nary a skyline rockin' Yr Wyddfa. Were they worried old ladies might think they were watching tokusatsu?

Incredible photo of Yr Wyddfa (the highest mountain in England, Wales and the Netherlands) captured from the Space Station this morning.

I wonder what it was like being Ken Campbell. I wonder it more than many

Alison@alisondennison.bsky.social

There are too many brilliant cast members and moments to mention, but I will say I love the recreations of scenes from the Sidney Paget illustrations, and of course Ken Campbell

The radio programme 'Music from The Hearts of Space' put 'Music for Airports' in my ears in 1984; I still enjoy it.

The boysenberry is a cross between the European raspberry (Rubus idaeus), European blackberry (Rubus fruticosus) and American dewberry (Rubus aboriginum). I knew it only as a tart pancake syrup available at the aptly-named International House of Pancakes.

Sometimes the fanger's even worse if the blessed thing actually happens but thankfully there are five stages of fandom, that conclude with 4. Fanover 5. Fanaissance

Peter Anghelides@anghelides.bsky.social

The three stages of fandom. Fanticipation: Looking forward to the Christmas special. Fanxiety: Worrying that the Christmas special won’t be as good as you’d hoped. Fanger: Learning that the Christmas special has been cancelled.

We mourn the passing of our friend, actor Michael Forest, who left us this week. Born Gerald Michael Charlebois, the man who played Apollo on Star Trek was 97. Michael indulged me by posing for this photo in 2022.

I discovered the making and showing of Hardware Wars (it was coupled with the original's re-release in some cinemas) in the producer's book, 'The Independent Film & Videomakers Guide'. It's lovely to see something nicer now than the murky rental tape found in early video shops 💕 youtu.be/WUDEUQMCyKE

The Spaceshipper 🚀@thespaceshipper.com

Hardware Wars was released 48 years ago today. "Fluke Starbucker and his mentor, Augie "Ben" Doggie, retrieve a crucial message from the loyal robots, Artie-Deco and 4-Q-2, and join forces with Ham Salad and his shaggy partner, Chuke-Chilla."

I can't wait to share the #DillardReport with you. Those #shows were mostly just paper cut-outs and bad jokes. Little did I realise I was assembling a populist treatise on the inter-relationship of copyright, business, society and The Individual which calls our modern copyright landscape right out.

I was just a bit too old for the boy's own adventures of Optimus Prime and his fellow #Transformers, preferring instead the love and rocketships in the anime space opera #Macross. This week I learned that the father of transforming robot vehicles – Shōji Kawamori – designed both.

I learned to replicate the TV room graphic from Ceefax, which had flying ducks on the wall, each rendered in only four pixels. That's when I learned about the ducks mounted upon Hilda Ogden's atmospheric painted 'muriel'.

Aye, there's a real mad scientist and rain machine behind the 'Cloudbusting' music vid – but the visual tale of a girl inspired to science by her dad is a positive thing of its own – and paid forward in The Sarah Jane Adventures. There's also a sublime, related Skittles advert (maybe amid my #tapes)

Odd This Day@oddthisday.bsky.social

My apologies to anyone else who’s old enough not to want to be reminded just how fucking long ago it was, but: today is the 41st anniversary of the release of Cloudbusting—so it must be time to tell you about Wilhelm Reich and his orgasmatron...

I did a lot of excelling as a kid – standing out in some shiny and magnificent ways. Then in a flash the jigsaw of my life completely fell away into some dark pit and there I was hovering in the gloom, this weird, 13-year old puzzle piece that no longer had anything to fit into!

Gail Simone@gailsimone.bsky.social

QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?
