The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Lucy Knisley illustrated this lovely kids book about computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, who played a key role in putting astronauts on the moon. Hamilton died recently--at age 90. Dean Robbins, author of "Margaret and the Moon," on how the book came to be: www.space.com/space-explor... #kidlit

space.comComputer scientist Margaret Hamilton was a problem-solver for the ages (op-ed)Hamilton showed that, no matter how daunting the obstacles, there are few problems we can't solve.

And the kids make fun of them because they “look like AI slop” too.

It’s depressing to see schools use AI to create flyers, banners, & t-shirts. When I was in high school the faculty would come to the art department to have students create these things. I learned so many skills that have followed me my entire professional life. That’s what I thought school was for.

30 YEARS IN PRISON FOR MOVING A BOX OF ZINES. For some context about why booksellers are concerned about being convicted as "antifa" under Trump's National Security Presidential Memorandum-7 (NSPM-7), here's that wild, heartbreaking story of Daniel Estrada: inkstickmedia.com/a-prairielan...

If you're wondering why a pic of Marco Rubio tops this story, it's because Rubio (& Stephen Miller) held a press conference to brag about imprisoning this zine-mover (who's also an elementary school aide, vegan, & was not even at the protest!). Still hard to believe that this is America.

JAYNE MANSFIELD had an IQ of 163, spoke 5 languages, and was a more than proficient Violinist, as evidenced here playing Vivaldi's Concerto No. 6 in A minor on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1957.

I’m reading a book published in 1944 and this logo is so unbelievably tough. I’d absolutely wear a shirt with this exact design.

Last night before the New York Liberty game, Khaila Wilcoxon (who's currently starring in Six on Broadway) sang the Star Spangled Banner. It was so beautiful, so heart-swellingly lovely, the whole crowd stood in awe. NYer's love this country. 🇺🇸 Also #WNBA games are the best. Just such happy fun.

The effective way the clarinet player does a musical call and response to the singer is just mesmerizing. "Tu vuo' fa' l'americano" by Renato Carosone: cover by Hetty and the Jazzato Band, an Anglo-Italian jazz quintet. @Rainmaker1973 #globalmuseum #music #jazz

The veteran’s group is The Uncommon Grit Seal Foundation. Some of the leaders spoke before the start. One from Alabama (!!!) said something like, “In these divided times, we don’t support our politicians but we have to support each other even more.” Very touching, a bit surprising, for Erie PA.

Obama: "As algorithms keep feeding us a steady stream of distraction and outrage, as only the loudest most extreme voices get attention, fanning our prejudices, appealing to our basest most tribal instincts, it's tempting to give in to cynicism and even despair, to stop trying."

“AI” is a sick burn in the tween & teen NYC set. Don’t like a girl’s look? She’s “AI Barbie.” Say something dumb? “You “sound like AI.” Poorly made thing? That’s “AI slop.” I feel like someone in charge of polluting our country w data centers should know this.

When she runs so fast and free—big happy circles—it reminds me of all the good still here in this world. #timelinecleanse #dogsofbluesky #prospectpark #dogsofbrooklyn

Did not think it possible that 25 years have passed since I spent my days selling books at A Different Light in San Francisco. Wild to visit Fabulosa Books, now in the same spot. Same shelving. Same old floor tiles. Same overgrown garden. Happy a LGBT+ bookstore is still there. Brighter now, too. 🌈

Happy Easter! It’s a time of rebirth and renewal and the president is tweeting terrible things, again. This rose is happening right now, too. And roses will keep happening long after he’s gone. #bloomscrolling
