I've been asked to put together a thread on the dangers of ibuprofen and other NSAIDs in ultra running by @matt-amato.bsky.social It's rather mammoth, but a topic that's hard to condense whilst maintaining enough accuracy. Please share if you find it useful! 1/18 😬

Cracking day, perfect running conditions for a scamper along a bit of the Southern Upland Way - including this fine recreational stile

Can you help? We're looking for more volunteers to help with this survey over the mid-winter period. A great excuse to get out for a coastal walk and enjoy some nice birds. All the info. you need is in the link below. Thanks! #BirdingScotland

So according to google this is a red-belted conk fungus. Smaller younger version in the photo on the right? Anyone with more fungi knowledge than me (everyone 😂) is welcome to confirm or deny this ID 😄 @bertolicus.bsky.social ? #Trees #Nature #Fungus #Environment #London

Squeezed in today’s hour easy run, followed by a trundle with the hound by the river. Chilly in the valley, warm up top!

Found a patch of what I suspect is Crocus speciosus (?) growing wild, much more strikingly marked than those in my garden. I feel some sampling is needed 🫣

Fun fact, this was a verbatim reviewer comment: "The results look fake, and the images of plastics also look like these were created by AI. I sincerely hope that this manuscript was a test by these authors or a test of this journal, because this should not be published in any journal as it is" 🤡

Dr Alex Bond@thelabandfield.bsky.social

In 2011, one chick held the record for most plastic ever found in the species: 276 pieces, 64g. We thought that was as bad as it could get. We were wrong. The record fell in 2023. Fell again in 2024. Then in 2025: 894 pieces in a single chick. (Photo: worst chicks in 2010, 2015, 2021, 2025)

Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea. Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.

This was the video I was looking for yesterday to post. I follow Joshua Wright on instagram because we are both passionate about saving old trees. This was an ancient forest valley that was recently logged on Vancouver Island. They cut down one of the largest Yellow Cedar tree in Canada. 😢

Local extinctions of cold-adapted plant species on mountain tops are happening. And they're accelerating! That, and much more interesting nuance, in our new paper - just out, and on the cover of, Science! More on the story on my blog: the3dlab.org/2026/09/03/p...

And that’s a wrap. After 5.5 days and 267 km of Arctic autumnal bliss I shuffled into Abisko at lunchtime today. All a bit emotional after bailing last year. What next 🤔

First half of day four in the bag, chill for four hours til the next boat then another 16km or so - and potentiall a row if I’m not fleet of foot (which is quite likely)
