For folks in the Massachusetts 4th District, Auchincloss has notably not signed this letter. He is the only member from Massachusetts who hasn’t. If you live in his district, call his office and urge him to sign on to defend his colleague and democracy: (202) 225-5931

The persecution of @repilhan.bsky.social just days before an election is vile and politically-motivated. I'm leading 175 House Democrats in denouncing this. When we retake power, we have to seriously look at how we can stop these abuses of power — starting with the power of the purse.

Whenever we move away from that vision, leftists get conned into helping rent-seekers get richer. “Building homes might make people rich!” That is what confiscatory top tax rates are for. “Imports could hurt US jobs!” That is why we need a jobs guarantee not just here but around the world.

The American left was caught flatfooted by automation. We couldn’t solve it with xenophobia and we didn’t have any other tools. We had been fighting to protect, instead of fighting to build, so workers just lost. With AI we get a do-over. We can do better this time.

p.s. @rephaleystevens.bsky.social this is what an endorsement looks like. You might be interested in trying one.

I voted early and enthusiastically for @hawkkoh.bsky.social I’ve had some people ask about why. He proactively stands up for trans kids. He will vote to expand the Supreme Court. And he is committed to labor rights and the labor movement in a way few DC politicians are.

He and I have very different styles of politics. His skills are in a different domain than mine. But that doesn’t make them wrong. The question is always, what do we do with the tools we have?

The challenges ahead include defeating fascism and defeating the billionaires so AI can work for us. That is going to take a diversity of tactics. Dan’s tactics are different than mine, but they will empower labor in the coming fights.

Phil Anschutz sent emails instructing employees at several of his companies to follower the voter guide in the newspaper he owns so they will vote for laws he paid to put on the ballot. A system can involve voting and still not be democratic.

Regardless of trans rights, gender policing in sports is racist and misogynistic. Women’s sports exist because women were not allowed to play sports. The entire purpose of women’s sports is that women are active people, not fragile objects. Anti-feminists have tried to restore control ever since.

"The moment you compromise the rights of a trans person in America you compromise the rights of every citizen in America" - @aoc.bsky.social We are building a Democratic Party that will stand together for liberation.

Trans voter to @aoc.bsky.social: Trans people in America feel like they've been abandoned by the Democratic Party, that we are a losing issue, that it's not worth defending us. What do you say to that? AOC:

Everyone should have the right to present the way they want, transition if they want, and not be assaulted for doing gender wrong. Even if cis people never transition, they have less freedom when they can’t.

Italy has banned lab grown meat. The Agricultural Minister, Francesco Lollobrigida, said it the ban will protect the country from the “social and economic risks” of the technology. Technology companies build cyborg systems: people+tech. Ignoring the people always limits the success of the tech.

“These roots and issuing CAs have gone through independent audits for two years in a row” We do not have audits that prove that software is safe. Or even that it does its one job.

This is an absolutely astounding press release from eMudhra. No apology, a suggestion that the researcher who found their private keys must have used AI, and an attempt to shift blame to auditors... wow. emudhra.com/en/press-release/emudhra-statement-distrust-global-tls-intermediate-root-ca

The Israeli government detained Brad Landers for harvesting olives. While the future Congressman has been released, other Americans remain in custody. The occupation is illegal. The impunity is ridiculous. There must be diplomatic consequences.

Automation can be a tool of liberation. The invention of the washing machine was a major step towards women’s equality. But not when it is used against us. Not when it is used to exploit and extract. Not when it is controlled by monopolies or governments. Not when it isn’t ours.

Software is the first place we get to try this out. We can eventually figure out a version of these tools that makes our job suck less, instead of more. The only way to get there is for programmers to work together and demand a tool that makes our jobs better.

Software for patients, instead of insurance companies and doctors. Software for small towns and local organizers. Software for academics and under-funded fields. Software for workers, instead of employers.

We have so many laws that need to be updated. We will have to overcome decades of anti-tax extremism. We will have to ration electricity by a mechanism other than wealth. But we will also be able to build so many things capitalism would otherwise never build.

ADHD treatment saves lives. The DEA needs to be accountable for getting people the drugs they need.

Ina Hallström@killedbyproxy.bsky.social

Systematic review relevant to the discourse on diagnoses and meds. "ADHD was associated with increased all-cause mortality, suicide mortality, unintentional or intentional injury mortality, and natural-cause mortality, whereas ADHD medication use was associated with reduced all-cause mortality."

Meta shutting down Indivisible’s page for today’s No Kings rallies is fascist bullshit. Congress should hold immediate hearings and find out what role Joel Kaplan and Dina Powell McCormick played, and whether there was any communication with the White House.

I am horrified by the attempted attack on a Hindu temple in Aurora. Everyone should be safe in their houses of worship. We must stop selling people the guns that turn bigotry into mass murder. And we must update Section 230 to hold platforms accountable when they get rich promoting bigotry.

The private profits of defense contractors come with massive national security problems. Defense contractors are huge donors. If we get money out of politics, we will be able to put America’s interests before profits.

The tools are being used against the American people. Our government should serve us, not spy on us.

There is no world where we replace labor with centralized capital and keep democracy intact. People might still vote, but only for candidates capital approves of and on ballot measures capital wants to buy.

Today we honor the diverse Indigenous people of the Americas and reaffirm our commitments to Indigenous sovereignty. The United States of America must become a country that keeps our oaths.

Senate Republicans voted to put Trump’s personal lawyer in charge of the Department of Justice. We have to go after every single member of this criminal fascist conspiracy.

There is no technical reason for self-driving trucks to cross picket lines. Capitalists assume that their money will let them control technology. We don't have to let that be true.

AI is a cyborg technology. The technology is us + the AI. We regulate us + cars. We regulate us + planes. We regulate us + radio transmitters. We can pass laws that make AI work for all of us.

"We are holding a lot of your people who you failed to love and take care of" I am one of those. I will always be grateful for the hospitality Massachusetts offered a teenager from rural Oregon. "Affordability" isn't just a buzzword. Those looking for a home should be able to afford one here.

David Roberts@volts.wtf

Holy shit.

This is un-American. The Department of Homeland Security has not made us safer: it has made us targets.

Dhruv Mehrotra@dmehro.bsky.social

NEW: DHS agents tracked people observing ICE arrests, photographed them, ran their plates, pulled personal information, and added them to a Palantir database, according to newly unsealed court filings. w/ @regret.bsky.social

There is a runaway winner problem when money controls politics. Massachusetts Ballot Measure 3 makes money more powerful in elections. It has $5 MILLION+ supporting making money more important. There is $150,000 against. When dollars get to vote, they vote to give themselves more power.
