🎂 Happy 23rd birthday, Firefox (Firefox 1.0 was released on November 9, 2004 but the first version of the thing that lead up to it – Phoenix 0.1 – was released on September 23, 2002)

When it comes to #iubb transfers, we have spent the past couple years chasing talent more than finding the right culture fit. I hope and trust we are doing it differently this time.

I watched the great chatbot debate live on YouTube last night. The topic was “Do LLMs understand?” I fall squarely on the side that they don’t understand, but I’m not sure that matters. I continue to believe that we will interact with them as though they understand and are conscious. #ai

Goode for another year with this new offense would be fantastic for #iubb

Tomorrow should be an interesting day. #ncaa transfer portal opens and 3/4 of the top teams will be out of the tournament. Let’s see what happens for #iubb

This is really the whole ball game right now, *particularly* among the institutions that make up civil society. (my parents definitely had this poster when I was growing up)

#iubb fans, who's excited to learn about our staff in the next week or so? I'm curious if we keep any folks, or if we start everything fresh. Also hoping to see Kory Barnett back in Bloomington, if possible.

One thing I think the media gets very wrong about #iubb fans is that they think we are delusional when it comes to expectations. IU fans understand good basketball and effort. You can’t bs effort with us. Immediately, I care a lot more about fixing our culture when it comes to IU men’s basketball.

I’m heading to a town hall with my congressman later this week and haven’t settled on a question yet. I want our leaders to prioritize wealth inequality, effective governance, and unity. Even if change is not possible, we need to establish a clear vision for the future.

“The Singularity is Bullshit” - Michael Wooldridge The Oxford computer science professor notes that a creation turning on its creator is the plot of Science Fiction from Frankenstein to The Terminator. Suddenly spiraling out of control isn’t very plausible. AI also has no semblance of agency.

This will be my last post about #iubb until after we pick a new coach, but whoever we hire needs to understand how all of these predictive metrics work. Close wins against weaker teams and giving up when down, mean awful efficiency numbers. No clue why, but it was as though our team didn't get it.
