Are you a Black man living in Ontario? This is an event you don’t want to miss! Research shows that Black men face higher health risks, but we can change that. There will be free blood pressure, blood sugar, sickle cell, & prostate screenings, + free food & community connections. #DurhamRegion

Honoured to call myself a CIHR scholar. Thank you to my community of supporters cheering me all the way. Grateful to be chosen by Queen’s University School of Nursing for this life-changing award. Looking forward to contributing to #blackmaternalhealth research in #Canada and beyond!

Did you know that Canada was not just a safe haven, but also a site of slavery for over 200 years? Black and Indigenous peoples were enslaved in colonial Canada. This part of Canadian history is often erased. On this #EmancipationDay, take some time to do some digging. humanrights.ca/story/story-...

humanrights.caThe story of Black slavery in Canadian history | CMHRCanada celebrates being a destination for Americans who escaped slavery via the Underground Railroad. But slavery was also part of Canada’s history for more than 200 years.

According to the government of Canada, Black nurses are met with harsher treatment in the healthcare system than their white counterparts. Let’s not even talk about the lack of representation in leadership and academia. Progress has been painstakingly slow.

Doug Ford froze minimum wage for years. He froze wages for female-dominated professions for years. He’s failed to boost ODSP for years. He’s made cuts to education. He’s grossly underfunded public healthcare. Today, he gives MPPs a 35% raise & turns his back on the rest of us. #onpoli

This nurses week, I challenge each of us to call out racism when we see it. Let us remember Joyce Echaquan, the 37yo Atikamekw woman who died in a Quebec hospital after being subjected to racist abuse by health staff. Stop being a passive ally & DO something. Happy Nurses week!

While I support free hospital parking in Ontario, it's important to recognize that hospitals are grossly underfunded and depend on parking fees to maintain services. To eliminate these fees without compromising patient care, Premier Doug Ford must increase hospital funding. #onpoli

The original meaning of woke is to be alert to social justice issues. To stay woke is to stay aware of what is going on in society. Politicians have colonized the word to criticize efforts around social justice & to spread anti-Black sentiments. We won’t let them. Forever woke 👊🏿

We should all be alarmed byPoilievre’s threats to pull back federal funding from universities if elected. Federal research grants are needed to fund cancer research, mental health, cybersecurity & many others. Pierre plans to end life-saving & cutting-edge science. www.ctvnews.ca/federal-elec...

ctvnews.caPierre Poilievre says he’ll end ‘woke ideology’ — he isn’t saying what that meansPierre Poilievre is vowing to eliminate 'woke ideology' from the public service, federal funding for university research and military culture.

My heart goes out to all those mourning and hurting after the senseless violence at the Filipino Festival in Vancouver, where a man drove a car right into the crowd, killing and harming people while they celebrated. Such tragedy! I pray for healing in our society. #Canada

Public health leaders talk of re-establishing trust www.statnews.com/2025/04/09/p... “We advance conspiracy theorists over people who are scientists. We have experts silenced & public health workers being demonized for doing their jobs.” Distrust was CREATED & weaponized by misinformation mongers.

A patient received priority care after assaulting a nurse. How is this not an example of rewarding violent behaviour? Does this mean that patients can attack nurses and get special treatment in return? This is sickening. Nurses deserve better! www.ctvnews.ca/winnipeg/art...

A work environment that requires or even just relies on employee resilience is not only toxic, it is also doomed as it will quickly lose that invaluable resource, the discretionary effort of their employees.

I recently spoke at a conference where I explained how the word resilience has been weaponized by many employers to justify unhealthy and toxic work environments. Please, don’t fall for it anymore. We don’t need resilience training. We need healthy work environments. Thank you.

During COVID, we learned the hard way that nearly all our hospital PPE i.e. masks, gowns, gloves comes from China. A 104% tariff could send us straight back to pandemic-level shortages or drive healthcare costs even higher.🫠

I never knew that fighting for equity would be something to be reported for. This only strengthens my resolve - now more than ever, I want to enjoy the same rights and privileges as you. You keep reporting. I’ll never stop speaking out.

Funny people. They can’t stand Trump, yet voted for Doug. Goodbye publicly-funded healthcare, education, and other social services. Forget about ever getting a family doctor. Hello to more healthcare privatization and more alcohol. #OntarioVotes2025

I highly recommend this book to educators across schools. I’m hearing that not much engagement with Black history is happening in many schools across Ontario. Educators must know better in order to do better. Thank you #BlackHistoryMonth

Yes, where are the charges! “According to a 2022 study by the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Black women are 53% more likely to die in a hospital during childbirth, no matter their income level or type of insurance.” Horrifying. I know I shouldn’t be shocked, but I am.

In 2023, the nurse who spoke up against the racist treatment of Black birthing mothers in the labour & delivery unit was fired. She had a mental breakdown from witnessing the mistreatment of multiple Black women in a maternity ward. It's 2025 and still no changes. sdvoice.info/black-nurses...

sdvoice.infoBlack Nurses Are Traumatized by Racism in HealthcareNaseema McElroy, a labor and delivery nurse, witnessed the mistreatment of multiple Black women in a maternity ward.

A 2020 study found that, even within the same hospital, Black women were at greater risk for maternal complications than white women. Implicit racial bias and institutional racism were reported as the main reasons. How are we disrupting the drivers of this unjust reality? #BlackMaternalHealth

I lost a friend who was pregnant with twins. They all died. The system continues to fail us Black women. My heart is broken💔 The prioritization of Black maternal health isn’t an option. It’s a must, & I’ll devote my entire being to advocating for Black maternal health equity. #BlackMaternalHealth

In 2022, nearly 60% of eligible voters did not vote. There’s no stronger way to make your voice heard than exercising your right to vote. If you can, help those in your circle to get to the ballots - offer a ride, help babysit, do something to get more voters out to #VoteFordOut

As you head to the polls, remember: 1. Doug Ford failed to end hallway medicine like he promised. 2. Over 2.3 million Ontarians have no family doctor. 3. In 2022, Doug gave 43 MPPs a $16000 raise & froze nurses’ wages at 1% increase for years. Doug cannot be trusted #onpoli

As you approach the polls, make sure you think of those made vulnerable by society, and vote in their best interests. This means that, we must VOTE OUT DOUG FORD because he despises those who are vulnerable and only panders to the rich #onpoli
