constantly alternating between anger and sorrow over the ubiquity of LLMs. they replace real peoples' skilled labor with cheap unimaginative imitations, discourage people from developing skills, and spread information like wildfire, all while accelerating climate disaster at the worst possible time

as a trans person seeing the political shift that's happening and a professional archivist/engineer working on web archiving tools, i'm toying with the idea of creating a(n ideally decentralized) archive of online trans + queer resources some thoughts as i muse on this over lunch:

View full thread

- are there existing efforts I could tap into/help support with time and technical know-how rather than trying to start something new from scratch? might there be the possibility of support or collaboration with existing queer and trans archives?

i have many more questions and vague aspirations than answers or concrete plans, but it feels like there's a thread of something there that i'd like to keep pulling

- it'd be important not to centralize these archives in any one place so that they're less vulnerable to takedowns/political interference. single points of failure could be exploited by those who want to censor trans peoples' stories and resources online

- access considerations, especially if archiving social media + personal content: maybe certain content would need to be restricted to in-community use only? it would be wise to revisit the docnow white paper + chat with other folks who are archiving their own politically targeted communities

maybe I should do more tiny software projects that don't require much time/learning to do. this extremely not-cutting-edge bot that I scraped together in 20 minutes has brought me so much joy?

You are up to date.
