The first thing that comes to mind is the washing machine - doing laundry by hand took DAYS. But there is a trend in history where when the tools make the work easier, the expectations for the amount of work go up.

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

Since we are talking about accents/dialects, I think one challenge I have with those quizzes sometimes is that if I see the word written out I will say "of course those are different" and I have to say them over and over. And possibly I say things differntly when reading aloud than when speaking

I think the most successful plant in our yard is the goldenrod - we planted a couple a couple of years ago. It has spread, and while it isn't blooming yet, it is currently as tall as I am (5'8")

I think the thing about Dolly that we all respond to is that she knew her own worth, but she didn't think she was better than anyone (at least not publicly). She believed us all, herself included, to be beloved children of her God and she acted accordingly.

Hello friends - I would like some recommendations for a good multi-season show that I can use as background viewing for data entry or similar tasks. Ideally it would be in English and have minimal on-screen text that I need to read. I have most of the streaming services and I work from home.

Taste is subjective and some of the AI slop out there is BAD but not REPULSIVE so I get why people go "meh, good enough" but then sometimes you see something that goes viral and you think "did they people who published this even LOOK at it" because what the actual fuck

On the one hand, I don't have to work tomorrow, on the other, it's because I took PTO to get a mammogram and do some stuff related to my Mom's estate. I am gonna buy myself so many Little Treats.

Lol, we boarded, then immediately had to deplane due to a ground stop for weather. As soon as we were off the plane, everyone's phones went off with tornado warning alerts

Flight has been delayed past when I should have landed at my destination. (It's a short flight) We have been directed to a new gate three different times and are now back at the original gate. Travel is so glamorous.

Because I love myself, when I booked my flight for today (work trip), I booked a 1:30 departure, meaning a normal morning and an 11:30 pick-up at home. Unfortunately, I have been up since 6 AM because T has jury duty and I couldn't fall back asleep after his alarm (we normally get up at 8)

I have been the note-taker in so many meetings where the decision got made during the conversation, and often CHANGED during the discussion. An AI summary of a transcript would not capture that.

Then they have all the transcripts (and the ai token bill) but no sensemaking. so they make another app — a layer that will make sense of all the useless transcripts. But of course sensemaking isnt just pattern spotting. It’s interpretation. AI cannot do either because AI cannot be curious

We went tubing along the Shenandoah today and while I don't love the thing where people bring speakers it was fun to pass different flotillas of people playing different music (and they were far enough apart that it wasn't cacophonous).

There are multiple rooms, so - in my office, mostly by genre and then alpha by author. History is generally chronological. The books in the main living room are mostly SFF and then alpha by author and in series order as appropriate, but hardcovers and paperbacks separated

Upstairs we just moved two bookshelves into the main living room and culled my parents' old collection of books, including their leather Franklin editions, so I am debating how I want to divide those (e.g. do I want to keep all the epic poetry together, or do one case of English & one of translated)

These shelves always held the decorative books and knick knacks in my childhood home and mostly weren't read (aside from a shelf of children's books) but I am currently considering mixing some others in (e.g. putting all three translations of The Odyssey together, regardless of binding).
