Updated links! For newcomers: I'm a #sciencefiction and #fantasy #writer - mostly short stories, but also a dark SF novella (The Speed of Winter) and a dark fantasy novel (Susurrus). I'm behind @metaphorosis.com - anthologies and magazine. I'm also a long-time #vegan living on the #OregonCoast. .

Watching a low-budget space show, and it's okay, but evidently they passed entirely on the science. 1. Turn off the engines, the ship stops dead. 2. There's a deadly toxin similar to LSD that's smaller than a water molecule. 3. Traveling from Earth to Proxima Centauri, they ... pass moons and stars.

It's me and Suzanne Willis, talking about an exciting anthology due in December. There's an epic quest in the background, but this book is about the ordinary people - the chandlers and hedge witches and launderers - whose lives the quest passes through. Pre-order here! bookshop.org/p/books/vesp...

Did I mention we have a new shared world anthology coming up? In this interview, two of the authors talk a little about how Vesperil came about.

In addition to AI's other problems, it's disheartening that I now get more e-mail from #AI scammers and spammers than from readers and fans.

Got my #ballot Friday, #voted and had the Post Office date stamp it the same day. Not taking chances, though it's a shame I have to think this way.

Here I've published anywhere between 13 and 113 anthologies and only learned this today. Just a natural botanist, I guess.

An anthology is literally a “flower collection” or a “gathering of flowers.” The Greek anthologia is made of anther “flower” and logia, here meaning “collection” or “gathering.” In Greek it was a word for a collection of poems and aphorisms, used metaphorically…

I used to be both an attorney and a lawyer, and frankly I doubt I could have told you the difference between the two terms. Zacharia may not have been a good press secretary (there's only one briefing to go on), but being fired for carelessness with those two terms is ridiculous.

As expected, had a good time at a Carrie Newcomer concert last night. Plus, it gave me (read, I stole) the title for a story I've been planning. Apparently, she and I were inspired by the same thing - the movement of birds - for her upcoming album Murmurations.

Why are witches and wizards the way they are? I'm reading through the books in this bundle, and there are a bunch of origin stories, including my own novel about how an evil sorceress got that way. The bundle of $5/3 books or $30/19 is still available for another couple of weeks. Take a look!

A Proposal on Naming The Democratic Socialists of America have had recent success acknowledging that the US is, in fact, a #socialist country. I propose that the US far right take notice and be equally forthright in taking the name Republican Fascists of America. /s

Now that we have the SFWA directory back, I've decided to start working my way through alphabetically, 'friending' people I've worked with. a) feel free to say no if you define 'friend' more intimately. No offense taken b) feel free to 'friend' me first!

There are some drawbacks to where I live, but today's afternoon walk was T-shirt weather, a pod of whales spouting, a graceful line of pelicans, a cormorant fishing in the surf, a blue heron sleeping in the wetlands, lots of sand for the dog to dig in, etc. #OregonCoast

I just got my copies of this beauty. (Bought three copies because I have no shame. Guess what my sis and dad are getting for their birthdays? Don't worry! It's not the WHOLE present.) Thank you @bmorrisallen.com for his exceptional editorial advice. Acquired Tastes is out in the world!

I'm finally watching #GameOfThrones, long after reading the books. The showrunners seem to use leaders watching violent blood sports on namedays as shorthand for self-centered, out-of-touch autocrats, and I can't disagree. Apropos of nothing at all going on at the White House today.

Several people have asked me recently why Analog/Asimov's/F&SF/Ellery Queen/Alfred Hitchcock still don't have Submission Grinder listings again, because the communications from SFWA on the subject have been so positive. So I thought it might be worth addressing this briefly.

I'm somehow always surprised to see a heron in a tree, but we just discovered a very small (2 nest rookery) near us. The babies look either (young) like faintly iridescent dragons or (older) like grumpy vultures.
