The fact that he wrote this and turned off comments highlights a huge problem on bluesky for plain folks. We get zero engagement (as I'm sure this post will get) and are not encouraged to even try.

BTW, I come here to read great stuff from brilliant minds (I'm being sincere). But to "engage" in conversation? That's not much of a thing. Which is ok, I guess, but it cracks me up how the big accounts don't realize their experience is not the norm.

"Then that implies someone was in the vicinity to spot a visual signal. And did we actually see another boat? Why didn't we just attack that other boat?"

WELKER: Isn't it possible that even the act of taking off a t shirt could've been part of an attempt to get attention for help? TOM COTTON: Or it could've been an attempt to signal to another cartel boat to come pick them up and pick up the cargo

I went to all boys Catholic high school just outside of Dallas. In 1982, an ultra fundamental Christian school from Longview canceled a football game with us because we had girl cheerleaders with typical cheerleader length skirts. Our headmaster even got interviewed on GMA about it. 1/

Incidentally, our cheerleaders came from local girl only schools. Ursuline and Hockaday. This was while Melinda French (Gates) was at one and Lisa Loeb was at the other. Neither was a cheerleader for us tho

I was 37 and was trying to find the WMDs.

I had a high school English teacher in a Midwest suburb in the early 1990s who had us write our responses to the article of our choice from The New Yorker. I — as a closeted high school senior — chose an article about the stigma of AIDS in Japan.

Top. Men.

HIRONO: What are the names of the people who replaced them in those positions? PATEL: The cyber branch is one of the most important at the FBI HIRONO: Who has those positions? PATEL: Supremely qualified individuals HIRONO: Names? PATEL You're not getting them HIRONO: You don't know

Former early 20-something camp counselor in Central Texas (right after Comfort) to today's counselors being forced into hearing all the FAFO stuff: we see you. We know your heroism. Take care of yourselves knowing that you did your best. People are mad and shocked, rightfully so. It isn't you.

Hopefully people understand that this can't be a one off performative play. This isn't a photo opp. This isn't about pink pussy hats. This needs to be the start of something much bigger.

While I was at Texas Tech in the mid 80s, I spent a semester working at the college radio station KTXT. Because we were at 88.1, our slogan was "All the way to the left". I've recently wondered whether they changed that. It was a very fun gig.

I remember this energy before the election. It is still there and hopefully bigger. Something needs to be different this time.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@aoc.bsky.social

We expected 2,000 people out in GOP-held Greeley, Colorado. 11,000 people showed up. Something special is happening, folks. Now is the time to organize in every dimension possible and get to work.

The morning of 9/11, my ex wife called me to see if I knew what was happening (pacific time). 9/12, the United States of America called me back to serve. In 2004, I helped look for the fabled wmd. This motherfucker? Laughing about Ukraine? Oh hell no. No.

If you are old, you remember that when movies showed up on TV, they were edited. Bad stuff was removed... but sometimes a scene was added from the cutting room floor. My favorite example was Fast Times. The TV version ADDED THE ABORTION SCENE WITH A JOKE BY THE DOCTOR. No shit.

On this day 12 years ago, I had a stroke. The good news was that I had it during a procedure at the hospital. I woke up the next day, Christmas Eve, unable to speak, unable to balance, and partially paralyzed on my left side. 1/

The paralysis faded in three days. The balance issues turned into vertigo that lasted about 4 years. My speech returned, but 12 years later, I still have a speech impediment (that I cover well, USUALLY). Daily migraines became weekly and are now irregular. HAPPY STROKE DAY! /end

I respect Judd, vaguely anyway. But what the hell man. Yes, yall, don't "steal" posts. And at the same time, stop acting like taking a screenshot and providing a Lil comment is "work". And as screenshots go... it's a screenshot. Is this really copying?

Judd Legum@juddlegum.bsky.social

It is poor form to steal someone else's Bluesky posts, down to copying my screenshot, without any credit Left (8:55 AM); Right (9:06 AM) This is engagement farming and it results in people following folks who engage in this kind of unethical practice, rather than people putting in the work

Man, I thought people in threads and bsky acting like know-it-alls about the CEO shootings was peak Inspector Clouseau Then it started coming up in LinkedIn. Holy crap. (I'm not checking xitter. I already know the Clouseau situation there)

A random pornbot named "Popile" now follows me on Instagram per the notification. Cool. I want to ask her about her pocket fisherman. If you are between 30 and 45, you might add "that's what she said." Above that I hope you caught the real reference.

Why does a galaxy far far away nickname a guy Porkins when they have no concept of pigs, much less pig meat known as pork, much less a mean nickname for chubby. Don't get me started on "Chewbacca"

Today's example of how AI can really screw up and why chiding people "you could have googled this" is silly. According to google, Jack Bauer killed... nobody... during 24. Sure, Jan. Google, you suck.

I dated a gal briefly who had been on Love Connection. On her "date", they stole a boat (!!!). When she told me this story, I tried to blow it off because... uh... she was very good at holding hands. Anyhoo we dated briefly. Turned out she was married. So if you know a boat stealer, it's a tell.

Right before it went belly up, Washington Mutual had a very spendy multimedia ad campaign based around the word "woohoo", including a Homer-ish voice actor exclaiming woohoo. BUT HERE'S THE THING. The print ads spelled it "whohoo". Da fuq? I will go to my grave pronouncing it hoo hoo

...but I don't want my horizons broadened by nazis and othering. In the same way that I don't need to expand my palate to include garbage and poop.

The Globe and Mail@theglobeandmail.com

Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?

I remember the days when bsky was a sleepy joint with a couple posts a day by people I follow. ...and 50 unfunny joke posts by Paul Frazee. I get that he's important here and all that, but slow your roll or workshop your stuff better. The good news? Enough action now to cover more of it up
