have a little misandry as a treat, i certainly have, but it is not a replacement for political thought or action. ceding half the population to fascists is doomerism. taking 'woman' as a category of people who are politically good is dangerous. gender essentialism is fun but it's not good for us. ok

Hello I'm only back to say that @boneysoups.bsky.social's THE RED SACRAMENT is just as good as you've heard if not, nay, better even than that. Like it was cooked up in a spooky Parisian theater just for me, and not a moment too late. Damn fine stuff.

appreciate this article pointing out that she's a performer! i think sometimes stuff like this gets traction bc people don't assume someone like a nondescript looking older black woman has real chops, these moments are always framed as some kind of previously unacknowledged natural talent

vulture.comHow SubwayTakes’s First Spinoff Star Outwitted ConanIt’s not the first time she has held her own with a comedy legend.

gretchen is the great critic + tastemaker of her generation and the sooner you get on board the sooner you will be introduced to art and interpretation that will change your life for the better. don't say nobody told you

i can't say what a joy it is to see virtually everyone i know and like on here, all around the country, even around the world, falling in love with The Devils, a movie that has meant more to me than I can properly express.

call it THE PRETENDERS about 2 ultracloseted failrivals who fall in love, come out, renounce their “claims” and stop……………………….pretending they could be hot playboy sons if you’re trying to cook for a crowd. no I won’t be doing this

Man in the Iron Mask (1998) used Vaux-le-Vicomte to stand in for Versailles so if you happened to watch that movie a jillion times as a kid (because you're gonna grow up to be a costume designer) and then someday you go to real Versailles you will be G A G G E D

not mad about it in the slightest but i am racking my brain trying to think where chronic illness, cultural appropriation, and forced institutionalization appear in the red sacrament. is depression a chronic illness? are 19thc faux-spanish entertainers cultural appropriation? who's getting locked up

this is related to why I ended up opting not to fill out Storygraph's content warning form for authors. I had trouble determining whether to warn for something like for ex slavery, which is referenced in the book and important to the story but doesn't ever appear on-page per se.

i've been trying out making tiktoks and it's a no from me i think. it's fun to do, i like editing and comedic timing, i definitely love to yap. but i don't like how much time it takes. i don't like collecting b-roll, i don't like how it changes the way i experience things

i'm also not sure i like how much of me it presents. this is in theory a way to "extend" my "personal brand" for promo, but discretion in general is better for my work in the entertainment industry. i'm already flirting w/ the line just by having a book out and being honest about my politics

idk, i might still post sometimes or do the occasional reel, or i could see picking it back up again in an extended period of unemployment. but for now the content game does not really appeal. i could see myself getting pretty good at it, but for what, to make more content?

so in awe of young people in paris rising up against a collapsing neoliberal order that has failed and betrayed them. they are situating themselves in the country's tradition of republican agitation (i saw more than one 67-68 sign) and facing disgusting police violence with fearlessness + solidarity
